The company in New London, Ct is seeking a Controller to join their team. This is a hands‑on position responsible for executing accounting transactions, preparing reconciliations, and providing key financial insights to executive leadership. The Controller also supports the development of annual financial statements and coordinates with external auditors during annual reviews. A continuous focus on improving departmental efficiency, processes, and team development is expected. Responsibilities & Duties Oversee daily operations of cash management and general accounting functions within the finance office. Manage all accounting activities efficiently and ensure financial reports are produced on schedule and in accordance with GAAP. Assist with compliance efforts related to tax, regulatory requirements, and institutional reporting. Provide guidance and support to finance and business office personnel, as well as other internal stakeholders. Prepare, reconcile, and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts as part of monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles. Assist with managing restricted and unrestricted funds, including project coding, tracking balances, and monthly allocations. Conduct financial analyses for departments or programs at the request of senior leadership. Support the preparation of internal and external monthly and year‑end financial statements. Lead audit preparation and deliver timely and accurate information to external auditors. Perform additional duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of the general ledger and financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Advanced technical and financial competencies, including reconciliation, financial modeling, analytical review, and statistical analysis. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, faculty, staff, and students.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in organizational financial reporting. Experience in not‑for‑profit accounting, with preference for candidates familiar with education‑focused or mission‑driven environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to utilize these tools for reporting, analysis, and communication. Experience with Blackbaud or similar financial accounting systems is a plus. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution. Five or more years of relevant accounting and/or audit experience within a not‑for‑profit organization; experience within an educational or complex multi‑stakeholder environment is strongly preferred and considered essential. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, financial accounting software, and related technologies. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial data, technical documents, regulatory guidance, and industry publications. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation. Proven ability to meet deadlines, troubleshoot issues, and apply effective problem‑solving skills in a dynamic environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
