The Controller - Restaurants will provide insightful and timely financial reporting and analysis to support decision-making by senior leaders. This role is crucial in enhancing the company's corporate accounting and business support processes, ensuring the delivery of accurate financial information. The Controller - Restaurants will offer comprehensive financial support to the Restaurant division business leaders and report to the Director of Management Accounting. This position requires a collaborative, professional, and service-oriented approach, utilizing strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead teams effectively.
ResponsibilitiesLead the restaurant accounting division across 8 brands and over 180 restaurant locations.Oversee period-end and year-end closings, producing accurate financial reports in a timely manner.Prepare monthly profit and loss statements and various other reports to support operations.Ensure timely performance of balance sheet reconciliations.Collaborate successfully with inter-department stakeholders to facilitate month, quarter, and year-end close activities.Maintain strong working relationships with business partners to promote synergies.Thoroughly understand stakeholder expectations and leverage accounting resources and knowledge to meet them.Manage the year-end process, including coordinating with external accounting firms for financial statement audits.Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and non-compliance issues.Review and ensure timely filing and remittance of all relevant indirect taxes.Identify opportunities for process improvement within the new ERP, focusing on automation.Train, develop, and provide continued support to a team of 3, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities.Essential Skills3+ years as a Controller in a medium-to-large organization.CPA designation (or equivalent – ACCA or ACA).Strong foundation in intercompany transactions and complex reconciliations.Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, XLOOKUP.Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.Experience managing multiple entities in a complex structure.2+ years of leadership experience managing a team of at least 3.Additional Skills & QualificationsBackground in the restaurant or hospitality industry (royalty and franchisee experience).Mix of public practice and industry experience.ERP experience, particularly with MS Dynamics 365.Working knowledge of GAAP or ASPE.Positive, team-oriented, and collaborative.Flexible and proactive in problem-solving.Strong relationship-building skills across departments.Work EnvironmentThis role requires working 4 days in the office and 1 day remotely, with full-time in-office presence during the first month. The position reports to the Director of Management Accounting, with direct supervision of 3 senior Accountants. The workspace is open and collaborative, featuring fun team activities such as Pizza Fridays and monthly birthday celebrations. The role involves close collaboration with three other controllers and requires a willingness to clear historical queries.
