Controller Job Description This position offers a diverse set of responsibilities and the opportunity to work alongside management on various projects. Based in Newington, CT, this role reports to the Vice President of Finance and Accounting and leads an Accounting team supporting multiple lines of business. The ideal candidate is a skilled financial professional with the ability to integrate finance and operations, collaborate with operational leadership, and drive analytical decision-making for business improvement. Responsibilities + Recommend, lead, and assist with initiatives to enhance operational and financial performance. + Collaborate with operations on financial analysis, CAPEX requests, annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and strategic planning. + Lead and develop accounting staff while maintaining strong working relationships with business managers. + Ensure adequate controls are in place to safeguard financial assets, including adherence to SOX controls and company accounting policies. + Conduct analysis and review of P&L accounts to support month-end processes and cost evaluation. + Lead accurate and timely month-end close and financial reporting processes. + Prepare and review balance sheet accounts to confirm proper reconciliation and supporting documentation. + Participate in ad hoc projects as directed. + Work with company leadership to execute decision-making focused on performance improvement. + Assist in the development and execution of the five-year strategic plan using market-driven data for commercial and residential markets. + Ensure regular and predictable attendance at assigned times. Essential Skills + Accounting + Financial reporting + Finance + General ledger management + Financial management + Reporting + Team leadership + Month-end processes + Financial statement preparation + Use of Viewpoint software Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience; CMA, CPA, or MBA preferred + 7-10 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years leading Finance teams + Proven ability to develop relationships and work effectively within teams + Strong leadership qualities and ability to develop talent within the Finance function + Solid values and high standards of ethics, integrity, and trust + Effective interpersonal and communication skills across various organizational levels + Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills + Ability to effectively balance multiple stakeholder priorities + Project management skills including prioritization among multiple requirements and deadlines + Effective writing and presentation skills + Ability to deal with ambiguity and facilitate change + Proficiency in computer use for email communication, document preparation, worksheets, and presentations Work Environment The role is based in an office setting in Newington, CT.
