Job DescriptionLitigate in federal and state courts, including appellate courts, throughout the country.Carry a substantial caseload in federal and state court, working closely with other staff attorneys and local counsel.Support litigation efforts, including drafting legal documents, conducting research, and preparing case strategies.Provide legal advice and guidance in alignment with the organization's mission and goals.Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to address legal challenges.Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations in all legal matters.Conduct policy advocacy on prisoners' rights and criminal justice issues.Develop new cases, identify and work with potential plaintiffs and witnesses.Engage in public speaking to a variety of audiences on a broad range of prisoners' rights, criminal justice, and civil liberties issuesTravel as required for litigation, case management, conferences, and client development.Represent the organization in legal proceedings and negotiations as needed.Maintain detailed and organized case files and documentation.MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
