Consulting Master's Intern

This position provides analytical support to a project or department. Under the guidance of a Project Manager/ Director, responsible for collecting and researching data, performing analysis, providing recommendations and presenting results. Department Description: At the Case Coordination Center (CCC), our integrated departments coordinate care for Kaiser Permanente members receiving services outside KFH facilities and provide rigorous quality and regulatory oversight across Southern California. Emergency Prospective Review Program (EPRP) and Outside Utilization Resource Services (OURS) repatriate and manage care for members in non-KFH emergency departments and hospitals; ETAP and PTAC connect clinicians and arrange tertiary and pediatric consultations and transfers; Behavioral Health Crisis services offer member crisis counseling, dispatch psychiatric evaluations, place patients in appropriate inpatient facilities, and oversee utilization management; our Quality team conducts structured call and documentation reviews and supports audits; CCC IT delivers 24/7 applications, reporting, and infrastructure support. Together, we ensure timely, safe, and compliant care transitions and operational readiness for the members we serve. Process Improvement & Workflow Optimization Capacity Planning Tools: Build year-round timelines and calendars for operational readiness, update SharePoint resources, and standardize templates for staffing and continuity planning. Workflow Management: Apply project management principles to intake or case creation processes, using tools like Lucidchart to streamline task tracking and documentation. 2. Data & Reporting Projects Performance Dashboards: Develop or enhance dashboards for monitoring case volumes, turnaround times, and compliance metrics. Trend Analysis: Analyze utilization patterns for programs like EPRP, OURS, and Behavioral Health services to identify improvement opportunities. 3. Training & Resource Development Leadership Development: Partner with HR on training programs to support emerging leaders in the CCC. Training Materials: Update and organize CCC training checklists and educational modules for departments like OURS and EPRP. Knowledge Management: Create quick-reference guides or digital resources for staff onboarding and emergency preparedness. 4. Strategic Initiatives Outside Medical: Projects to support outside medical reduction. Program Continuity Planning: Support planning for work stoppage scenarios, including staffing models and recovery processes. Behavioral Health Coordination: Assist with projects that improve discharge planning and continuity of care for behavioral health patients. 5. Communication & Engagement Internal Communications: Help design team-building activities, intern showcases, and presentations to strengthen collaboration and share learnings. Onboarding: Build onboarding framework for frontline staff and leadership teams. Essential Responsibilities: + Responsible for contributing high level analytical support to a project or department requiring application of knowledge in marketing, information management, finance, management, economics or statistics. + This position contributes to a full range of project components. + Assigned to at least one project and expected to produce results and report out as a member of a project team. + Organizes assigned project tasks, identifies and structures information collection activities, and sets timelines for completion of required tasks as directed. + Develops tools to identify and to document best practices. + Prepares various excel, word or PowerPoint reports, and works with access database software (or similar tool) to develop data extracts and management information reports. + May be asked to produce graphic information using excel or PowerPoint or similar software. + Contributes to development of management information and analysis conducted, provides recommendations and assists with preparation of formal presentations to communicate results to various management levels. Identifies alternative solutions to project issues. + Contributes to development project plans to ensure timely deliverables and successful completion of project and demonstrates an understanding of various business intersections. + Assists with identification and development of training information. + Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. Basic Qualifications: Experience + N/A Education + Bachelors degree required. + Enrolled in or recent graduate of a MBA or other Masters level program with an accredited college or university. License, Certification, Registration + N/A Additional Requirements: + Solid analytical skills, problem solving, project management and critical thinking. + Strong project management skills. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to utilize at a working level Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access. + Must be able to work in a Labor/ Management Partnership environment. Preferred Qualifications: + Knowledge of SQL or SAS highly desirable.
