We are looking for you to join our team as the IMU/IRU Operating Unit (OU) Consulting Chief Engineer based out of Woodland Hills, CA. This position reports to the OU Engineering and Sciences Lead, with a dotted-line relationship to the Business Unit Chief Engineer and the OU Director Our success is grounded in our ability to embrace change, move quickly and continuously drive innovation.  The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation. This is fully onsite position located in Woodland Hills, CA working a 9/80 schedule.

Responsibilities:

Serve as a trusted advisor to the OU Director on all technical activities and risk posture of programsDevelop and drive the OU investment strategy and roadmap, aligning program-level technical decisions across multiple initiativesProvide technical leadership in solving complex engineering challenges, often taking a hands-on approach to problem-solvingReview technical proposals and assess program milestones of programs and projects within the OUPlay a pivotal role in business development and capture efforts, representing the OU to executives and high-profile external stakeholdersMentor program-level systems engineers and support their professional developmentSupport technical design reviews within the OU, ensuring the integrity and executability of the technical baseline through collaboration with key stakeholdersEnsure clarity and consistency of technical requirements, objectives, and constraintsCollaborate with system architects to translate customer needs into system-level requirements, attributes, and performance measures Ensure adherence to engineering processes and risk posture Drive initiatives for process development, continuous improvement, and affordability within programsManage product line risks and opportunities related to system performance, supporting the OU Director throughout the processIdentify and promote reusable technical assets for organizational efficiency

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 16 years, Master’s degree with 14 years, or PhD with 12 years of relevant experienceExtensive background in developing inertial measurement system specifications, requirements, and error budgets, demonstrating a deep understanding of performance metrics and integration challengesProven experience leading technical execution on complex engineering initiatives while ensuring the quality and integrity of the product delivered by othersStrong technical leadership skills, effectively interfacing with executives, customers, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and strategic deliveryDemonstrated ability to create and implement comprehensive technical roadmaps that align with the organization’s objectivesExperience in mentoring and developing junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaborationProven track record in identifying, assessing, and managing risks and opportunities within engineering programsStrong communication skills, with the ability to represent technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersAbility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance within the timeframe set by managementAbility to work onsite full-time in Woodland Hills, California

Preferred Qualifications:

Extensive experience in a Chief Engineer capacity or equivalent, overseeing the technical integrity of a productDemonstrated experience in capture management, successfully participating in business development and proposal effortsFamiliarity with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Cost Account Management (CAM), showcasing the ability to manage project budgets and performance metrics effectivelyExperience leading technical review processes and participating in Change/Configuration Control Boards (CCBs)Strong analytical skills, with a proven ability to drive process improvements and innovation across engineering practicesCurrent DoD Secret security clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $206,900.00 - $310,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
