Construction Staff Accountant
Job Title: Staff Accountant

Job Description

Join a dynamic commercial construction company that specializes in public works projects, primarily supporting CalTrans. As the Staff Accountant, you will be integral to our team, handling payroll, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and various transactional accounting responsibilities. This role provides high opportunity for growth and is expected to train into the Accounting manager role.

ResponsibilitiesReview all invoices for job identification and taxes.Complete necessary Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for subcontractors.Process invoices and issue checks.Post AP invoices and manage records.Follow up on missing invoices or invoice-related issues.Distribute employee credit card expense reports and manage receipts for reimbursement.Process employee expense reports and reimbursements.Set up job cost codes and categories in Timberline software.Update pre-lien records per job in Timberline.Manage time & material worksheets, pre-liens, stop notices, progress billings, and Cal-OSHA permits and safety forms (Form 300).Serve as backup for payroll needs, manage garnishments/deductions, and oversee unemployment claims.Set up new hires in internal systems, handle W4s, payroll tax deposits/withholdings, and quarterly payroll tax reports.Manage subcontractor certified payroll reports and fringe benefits reports.Essential SkillsProficiency in accounting and construction accounting.Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and vlookup.Understanding of GAAP accounting principles.Experience with Sage 300 and Timberline software.Knowledge in accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, reconciliation, month-end processes, journal entries, reporting, accounts receivable, balance sheets, financial statements, and cost accounting.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business.Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Staff Accountant within the construction industry, particularly with union payroll and public works.Experience with construction accounting software, with Timberline preferred.Work Environment

This role requires working on-site five days a week within a small company setting, consisting of three office staff and ten field staff.

This is a Permanent position based out of Vacaville, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $83000.00/yr.
