Position Summary

ISI is seeking a Construction Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in steam systems, high-pressure piping, mechanical upgrades, and building utilities to support the Steam System Upgrade – Phase V project at the Perry Point VA Medical Center.

The role supports the VA as a full-time onsite Construction Manager / Owner’s Representative, ensuring mechanical work is executed safely, correctly, and in accordance with design intent and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Provide daily onsite oversight of steam system modifications, high-pressure pipe routing, and mechanical upgradesReview construction documents, mechanical submittals, cut sheets, RFIs, and test/inspection reportsVerify installation quality, including welds, joint integrity, mechanical supports, insulation, and system tie-insParticipate in shutdown planning, outage sequencing, and system switchoversSupport commissioning processes for new and upgraded steam systemsMonitor contractor progress and provide independent reporting on schedule and performanceMaintain detailed field notes, photos, and redline drawingsAssist with evaluation of cost proposals, schedule changes, and claims documentationSupport punch list, acceptance testing, and project closeout activities

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering supporting steam systems, boiler plants, or industrial/commercial mechanical constructionStrong knowledge of ASME, NFPA, IBC, and mechanical system design principlesAbility to interpret plans, specifications, and commissioning requirementsExcellent communication skills and experience working with contractors and A/E teamsAbility to pass a VA background check

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferredExperience supporting healthcare, industrial, or federal construction projectsFamiliarity with testing protocols for steam lines, traps, valves, and expansionsPrior experience supporting shutdown coordination in active facilities

This job operates in active construction environments and professional office environments.
