Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee highway and transportation construction projects in the Richmond, VA area. This role will be responsible for managing all phases of construction for VDOT-funded projects, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable regulations.The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in highway construction, including roadway, structures, and traffic-related projects, and possess deep familiarity with VDOT standards, processes, and construction practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage and oversee construction activities for highway and transportation infrastructure projects, including roadway, structural, and traffic-related workServe as the primary point of contact between owners, contractors, inspectors, engineers, and VDOT representativesEnsure compliance with VDOT requirements, contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable federal, state, and local regulationsReview and interpret construction plans, specifications, contracts, and change ordersMonitor construction progress, schedules, budgets, and quality control/quality assurance activitiesCoordinate construction methods, procedures, and sequencing to ensure efficient project executionOversee inspection activities, documentation, and reporting throughout the project lifecycleEvaluate contractor performance and resolve construction issues, disputes, and claims as they ariseEnsure adherence to safety standards and promote a strong safety culture on all job sitesParticipate in project meetings, progress reviews, and stakeholder briefingsSupport project closeout activities, including final inspections, punch lists, and documentation
Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Civil EngineeringProfessional Engineer (PE) license orCertified Construction Manager (CCM) certificationProven experience working on VDOT highway construction projectsStrong background in highway and transportation construction, including:Roadway constructionStructures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, etc.)Traffic engineering and traffic controlConstruction methods, procedures, and best practicesPlans, specifications, and construction contractsSolid understanding of construction management principles, scheduling, cost control, and risk management
Preferred QualificationsPrior experience managing or overseeing large-scale VDOT or DOT-funded transportation projectsFamiliarity with VDOT inspection, reporting, and documentation systemsStrong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skillsAbility to effectively manage multiple stakeholders and priorities
