We are seeking a dedicated Construction Inspector to oversee and inspect various projects, including those by MDOT, local agencies, and private entities, throughout Southeast Michigan. This role involves daily reporting, collaboration with internal and external teams, and working on underground utility, road, and bridge construction projects. The inspector will interpret construction plans, blueprints, and maps, evaluate and review project plans and specifications, and perform density and concrete testing as needed. The position requires working in all weather conditions and reliable transportation for which mileage will be reimbursed.
Responsibilities
+ Inspect and observe projects for MDOT, local agencies, and private sectors.
+ Complete daily reports using Field Book or AASHTOWare.
+ Collaborate with internal and external teams on construction projects.
+ Work on underground utilities, road, and bridge construction weekly.
+ Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and maps.
+ Evaluate and review site plans and specifications.
+ Perform density and concrete testing as required.
+ Commit to working 50-60 hours per week during summer, including some weekends.
+ Ensure reliable transportation for site visits, with mileage reimbursement provided.
Essential Skills
+ 2+ years of construction inspection/observation experience.
+ Experience with MDOT or local agency/municipal projects (at least 1 season).
+ Clean driving record.
+ Knowledge and experience with Field Book/Field Manager.
+ Ability to work 50-60 hours during busy months.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 5+ years of inspection experience.
+ MDOT certifications (HMA, Density, Concrete, etc.).
+ Experience with AASHTOWare reporting.
+ Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or similar technical field.
+ Knowledge of Bluebeam.
Work Environment
The role is primarily field-based at job sites, working Monday to Friday, with 40-60 hours per week and occasional Saturdays. The position offers a team and family-oriented work environment with opportunities for advancement and participation in extracurricular activities such as a softball team and golf league. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomfield Hills, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $42.00/hr.
