Construction Accountant (AP/AR specialist)
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist/Construction Accountant to join our team. This role involves processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, handling billing and collections, and preparing AIA pay applications. The ideal candidate will maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with internal controls, while partnering with project managers to track project expenses and budgets.
Responsibilities
Process accounts payable, including invoice coding, approvals, and payment processing.Manage vendor correspondence, resolve discrepancies, and maintain strong vendor relationships.Handle accounts receivable, including billing and collections.Prepare and submit AIA pay applications and related job cost accounting functions.Track project expenses and budgets.Maintain accurate financial records within Sage 100.Utilize TimberScan workflow for invoice processing and approvals.Assist with month-end close activities and financial reporting.Partner with project managers to ensure accurate project financials.Maintain organized documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls.Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as needed.Essential Skills
2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within construction or real estate.Hands-on experience with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.Experience with AIA billing/pay applications strongly preferred.Working knowledge of Sage 100 highly preferred.Strong understanding of job cost / cost accounting concepts.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, internal teams, and leadership.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with TimberScan or similar AP workflow tools is a plus.Work Environment
This position requires working on-site for five days a week, with potential flexibility to work remotely one day per week in the future. The work environment is collaborative, and candidates will utilize technologies such as Sage 100 and TimberScan.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD 21227.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.65 - $38.46/hr.
