**Job Title: Concrete Laborer** **Job Description** We are seeking a skilled Concrete Finisher specializing in heavy highway and roadway projects in the Tidewater region of Virginia, specifically Newport News. The ideal candidate will expertly smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete bridge decks, parapets, sidewalks, or curbs and gutters to specified textures. **Responsibilities** + Signal concrete deliverers to position trucks for optimal pouring. + Direct concrete into forms using the truck's discharge chute. + Spread concrete into inaccessible sections using a rake or shovel. + Level concrete to the specified depth and consistency using handheld screeds and floats. + Smooth and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete. + Finish concrete surfaces or rub with abrasive stone for a polished finish. + Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound. + Mold expansion joints and edges. + Sprinkle colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete for prescribed finishes. + Create rough concrete surfaces with a broom. + Mix cement using a hoe or concrete-mixing machine. + Utilize hand tools such as hoes, trowels, and tampers to repair old concrete surfaces. **Essential Skills** + Experience in concrete finishing, especially on bridge decks, parapets, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. + Proficient use of hand tools for concrete work. + Two to four years of related experience and/or training in commercial concrete finishing. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Any operator experience is a plus. + Ability to lift, kneel, and stand for extended periods. **Why Work Here?** Enjoy opportunities for overtime and career growth in the concrete trade. **Work Environment** This role involves working outdoors, with conditions subject to weather changes. **Job Type & Location** This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, Virginia. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $24.00/hr.
