**Job Description**
The **Computer Support Analyst I** will support the on-site IT operations of the Institute for Protein Design (IPD) providing day-to-day technical support for desktops, laptops, lab equipment, and connectivity to the IPD’s data center infrastructure. This position is responsible for responding to tickets from IPD members, deploying and maintaining IT equipment in office and wet lab environments, and coordinating with IPD staff and external vendors with equipment setup. Additional duties include A/V support for presentations, documenting procedures and instructions, and training end-users on accessing the IPD’s IT resources. The position will also require travel between IPD sites on UW main campus and an off-campus location in SLU.
This role will also assist IPD IT in data center operations, primarily deploying new equipment as it arrives. While the primary focus of this is on-site technical support, the position will have exposure to data center operations within a high-performance computing environment. Candidates with experience in, or interest in learning, IT infrastructure operations in academic research environments are preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Support IPD-wide IT operations (60%)
+ Deploy, maintain, and support desktops, laptops, and printers
+ Troubleshoot connectivity between devices and networks
+ Respond and act on tickets and requests
+ Track and manage IT inventory and equipment
+ Setup equipment for IPD members, wet lab instruments, and new hires
+ Provide end-user training for IPD IT resources
+ Assist IPD IT with data center operations (20%)
+ Unbox and rack new servers and server hardware
+ Troubleshoot connectivity issues between on-site systems and data center infrastructure
+ A/V tech support (10%)
+ Provide technical support for seminars and meetings as needed
+ Simple editing of recordings
+ Document issues, resolutions, and procedures, (10%)
Minimum Requirements:
Two years of experience in programming or computer support services of a technical nature.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Additional Requirements:
+ Ability to lift and move equipment over 50 pounds
+ On-site presence during standard business hours
+ Ability to travel between business sites as required via public transportation or University of Washington vehicles
+ Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and macOS
+ OS installation and imaging on desktops and laptops
+ Hardware troubleshooting (desktops, laptops, printers)
+ Basic network troubleshooting including services such as VPN, DNS, and printing
+ Ability to follow and create technical documentation and procedures
+ Customer service mindset
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
+ Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
+ Understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN)
+ Experience with imaging and deployment tools such as Ansible
+ Familiarity with terminal, command line, or PowerShell, and CLI tools like SSH
+ Scripting experience with Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar languages
+ IT support in academic or research environments and vendor-managed systems
+ Experience working with directory services such as Active Directory or LDAP
+ Exposure to data center environments and server hardware
+ Basic understanding of virtualization technologies (QEMU, Incus)

$60,336.00 annual
**Pay Range Maximum:**
$81,240.00 annual
