About the team:The Global Competitive Strategy & Insights team delivers high-impact insights that support eBay’s senior leadership as they navigate an increasingly dynamic commerce landscape. The team partners closely with global verticals, horizontal initiative teams, and functional leaders. They find opportunities, assess competitive dynamics, and develop enterprise-level strategic decisions that guide eBay’s growth trajectory. We connect market data, competitive intelligence, and financial analysis into clear, actionable insights that help leadership accelerate growth, sharpen eBay’s competitive position, and make informed investment decisions.
About the Role:The Competitive Strategy & Insights Lead plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering competitive and market strategy for eBay’s key categories.
You will set the strategic agenda, oversee high-visibility deliverables, and ensure the quality and clarity of insights that influence VP- and GM-level decision-making.
The ideal candidate brings problem solving, analytical rigor, and collaborative leadership, with the ability to guide talent and lead complex, cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed environment.
What you will accomplish:Strategic Leadership
Lead competitive strategy and market intelligence efforts for eBay’s key strategic initiatives and categories.
Partner closely with initiative owners, vertical leaders, and functional teams to identify growth opportunities, competitive threats, and trade-offs.
Translate complex data and analysis into compelling, executive-ready narratives that drive decisions at the GM and VP level.
Team & Vendor Leadership
Lead and manage a small, team of analysts and/or contractors.
Establish project priorities, guarantee analytical rigor, and direct the implementation of insights and deliverables.
Mentor and develop team members, encouraging a culture of excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
Manage external research and data vendors, ensuring high-quality, consistent, and timely insights.
Strategic Execution & Analysis
Conduct and coordinate competitive analyses, market assessments, and financial modeling to evaluate opportunities, risks, and strategic scenarios.
Build and maintain monitoring frameworks to track competitive moves, market trends, and emerging signals.
Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Vertical, and Horizontal teams to align insights with business planning and execution.
Lead special strategic projects with senior-level access to inform key investment and operating decisions.
Collaborator Influence
Present insights and recommendations to senior executives with clarity, confidence, and strategic perspective.
Serve as a trusted thought partner and advisor to initiative leads and functional collaborators.
Drive alignment and momentum through strong collaboration, influence, and results orientation.
What you will bring:
BA/BS degree with 8+ years of relevant experience in strategy, consulting, or insights-related roles.
Strong strategic problem-solving skills and analytical modeling capabilities.
Experience working with large data sets and translating data into clear business insights.
Outstanding communication and storytelling skills, with a proven ability to influence senior leadership.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize various tasks.
Skilled in cross-functional collaborator management in complex organizations.
High curiosity and continuous-improvement approach.
Strong ownership mentality and consistent delivery against deadlines.
Collaborative, approachable, and enjoyable to work with.
Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel required.
SQL skills required.
Experience in retail or e-commerce preferred.
Top-tier undergraduate degree and/or MBA a plus.
The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
C$121,200 - C$161,800Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including RRSP eligibility, various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
