About The Role

 

HUB International’s Complex Risk Unit (CRU) is looking for a seasoned Commercial Lines Vice President, Marine to serve as a senior technical broker and strategic growth leader within our marine specialty practice.

 

This is a client-facing, non-management role suited for a seasoned broker who thrives on originating and shaping complex opportunities, building market-leading solutions, and elevating specialty capabilities. You will play a critical role in expanding and enhancing our marine offering, including cargo, global logistics, and related professional exposures, while acting as a trusted advisor on complex and multinational risks.

 

As a VP within CRU, you will lead sophisticated placements, partner closely with producers to win new business, and help evolve the marine unit’s capabilities and market presence. While not a people manager, you will provide technical guidance and informal mentorship to junior brokers and account team members, helping strengthen overall practice depth.

 

What You’ll Do

Serve as senior technical lead on complex marine placements, including cargo, logistics, and related professional indemnity exposures

Partner with producers to originate and convert new business opportunities within the marine portfolio

Drive the development and enhancement of marine products and solutions, addressing evolving logistics and global supply chain risks

Lead complex renewals and placements, including risk analysis, program design, manuscript wording, and market negotiations

Maintain and expand relationships with domestic and international insurers, including specialty and London markets

Participate in client and prospect meetings as a subject matter expert, supporting sales strategy and retention

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to account executives and junior team members

Support claims advocacy and coverage interpretation for complex marine-related matters

Remain current on marine, logistics, and professional indemnity market trends, regulatory considerations, and emerging global trade exposures

 

 

What You’ll Need for Success

 

Valid RIBO license (or ability to obtain in short order)

10–15 years of commercial insurance experience, with deep specialization in marine and cargo risks

Strong technical expertise across marine products including cargo, hull & machinery, shipbuilder’s risk, freight liability, warehousing, and global logistics exposures

Working knowledge of related lines such as Professional Indemnity / Errors & Omissions, particularly where exposures intersect with transportation and logistics operations

Demonstrated success in originating and structuring complex insurance programs across multiple jurisdictions

Established insurer relationships within Canadian, U.S., and international marine markets

Strong business development orientation with the ability to identify and convert complex risk opportunities

Ability to mentor and elevate junior brokers and account team members through informal leadership and knowledge sharing

Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills

Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable operating with autonomy in a fast-paced specialty environment

Familiarity with broker management systems (e.g., Applied EPIC) and proficiency in MS Office

The compensation for this position is a variable compensation structure, i.e., base salary plus commission. As such, the total compensation earned will vary depending on the successful candidate’s book of business at a particular time. The expected base salary for this position is $130,000 to $180,000 plus commissions will be paid based on successful sales performance. The total compensation will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
