Commercial Fuel Intern

The Commercial Fuel Intern will play a key role in supporting Murphy USA’s commercial fuel growth and customer acquisition initiatives, with a primary focus on transitioning legacy customers to the Murphy USA Business platform, generating new business, and capturing actionable customer insights to inform future go-forward commercial fuels marketing strategy.
This role blends data analysis, customer research, and hands-on sales activity, giving the Intern exposure to both revenue retention and new customer acquisition within a fast-growing commercial fuel program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Analyze customer and transaction data to identify high-value and at-risk accounts, usage patterns, spend behavior, and product mix across the commercial portfolio.
• Support customer acquisition and migration to the Murphy USA Business platform, including prioritization of legacy accounts and development of targeted outreach strategies.
• Conduct customer intercepts and interviews to gather voice-of-customer insights across migrated, new credit, and new prepaid customers.
• Synthesize qualitative and quantitative insights into actionable summaries to inform product development, marketing strategy, and sales execution.
• Execute targeted outbound sales efforts in defined markets, aligned to ideal customer profiles by geography and industry.
• Research, identify, and qualify prospective customers, generating new leads through calls, emails, and digital outreach.
• Maintain accurate CRM records and pipeline tracking for both migrated and new accounts, ensuring visibility into customer status and engagement.
• Track and analyze the end-to-end customer journey, including migration, activation, usage, engagement, retention, and conversion metrics.
• Develop performance reporting and dashboards, including executive-ready summaries on migration success, customer behavior, and sales effectiveness.
• Participate in sales meetings, providing analytical support to refine value propositions, industry targeting, and commercial onboarding playbooks.
QUALIFICATIONS

• General PC Knowledge including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility

• Motivated to take on new challenges and learn in a fast-paced environment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Sophomore level or above (preferably junior level after spring semester
• GPA of 3.0 or higher
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with internal and external customers
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Candidate will work closely with members of the Commercial Fuel and Fuels Pricing Teams team while gaining exposure to other departments that support Fuel Pricing within the organization (Analytics, Marketing, Logistics, IT, etc.)
INTERNSHIP CAPSTONE
At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will present to the Senior Vice President, Retail Fuels, on three executive-critical problem areas:
• Revenue Protection – Defending existing gallons and margin
• Customer Intelligence – Institutionalizing the voice of the customer
• Scalable Growth – Targeting and marketing recommendations
