Title: Clinical Practice Specialist-Critical Care

Scheduled Hours: Monday-Friday;

                            Day Shift;

                            Schedule can be 4-10 hour shifts or 5-8 hour shifts a week    

Job Summary:

To plan and coordinate care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Clinical Practice Specialist will serve as practitioner, patient outcome champion, professional leader and innovator. This position provides a high degree of professional competence and integrates practice, research, education and leadership into clinical roles.

Will participate in the Center for Innovation and Research Team but is a unit-based team member working directly with the director and manager of Critical Care. Typical focused priorities include improvement of site and unit based KRA indicators, nursing sensitive indicators, Magnet designation and patient population specific programs including but not limited to ventilator care, targeted temperature management, ECMO, as well as medical alerts, sepsis, stroke, and associated committee PI tasks.

The role will support Advocate’s initiatives working collaboratively with unit leadership to achieve unit, department and site organizational goals to always ensure safety, quality and service.Patient Outcomes: Monitors data, develops interventions, programs and indicators to benchmark performance and improve patient outcomes.Professional Leadership/Staff Development: Demonstrates leadership qualities that reflect accountability and serves as a clinical expert/resource to staff with respect to problem solving patient care, aiding in staff’s critical thinking skills, and professional development.Participates in and promotes quality, research and evidence based practice findings by making appropriate recommendations for changes in practice, policies and procedures.

Position Requirements:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current IL RN licenseMasters Degree in Nursing required3+ year’s recent adult inpatient critical care clinical experience requiredCurrent RN license in the State of IllinoisCurrent AHA CPR and ACLSCertification in specialty (i.e., CCRN) or must achieve within 2 years of hireStrong analytical and critical thinking skillsProven leadership skillGood organizational skillsEffective communication and presentation skillsMust be knowledgeable in principles of adult learning theory and capable of creative planning, coordinating, and overseeing educational and orientation programsProficient at incorporating adult learning principles, online and in person teaching methods to maximize learning and the application of that learningExcellent interpersonal, negotiation, planning and problem solving skillsProficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseasesAbility to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
