Directly reporting to the Director of Clinical Education, the Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) at Touro College of Dental Medicine's clinical site in Albuquerque, New Mexico is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of assigned specialty clinic(s). Clinical Practice Leaders also ensure appropriate coverage, administrative support and resolution of any issues within the clinic(s) they oversee.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Initiating and guiding student doctor/patient interaction and assist in transition to clinical practiceIn the case of community practices, continually reviewing student rostersDelegating patient assignments or redistributing to student doctors based on needs within the clinical environment for which they are responsibleProviding guidance and direction regarding care of patients by monitoring student treatment planning, progress, and performanceModeling and advising students on professionalism and patient management techniquesAssisting with solving patient related problemsReviewing within their clinical practice, on a regular basis, where appropriate, each student's performance related to:Quality and Quantity of clinical careEach student's practice and patient resourcesEach student's individual roster and group progressEach student's patient treatment goalsIndividual student needs and related time utilizationMonitoring unapproved notes and treatments on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, and signed by each CPLReporting instances of misconduct to the Director of Clinical EducationEnsuring adequate clinical coverage by approving faculty time away in all clinical practicesEnsuring calibration of clinical faculty in:Clinical protocol complianceInfection Control ComplianceCompleting Reviews of student activity as requiredOverseeing Clinical Formative and Summative Examination Process which includes reviewing progress of students on the Road to CompetencyAttending periodic meetings with other CPL'sMembership, if appointed, on the Clinical Policy CommitteeMembership on the Year 3,4 Student Academic Promotion Review Committee (SAPRC 3-4) Qualifications Education/ExperienceRequired qualifications include a D.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent, Certificate of training from an ADA-accredited AEGD or GPR program, and/or other advanced degrees and previous teaching experience.The applicant must be eligible for licensure in the state of New Mexico.A track record of scholarly activity and outstanding patient care is highly desirable, as well as demonstration of or likely commitment to diversity-related teaching/research/service.Engagement and familiarity in curriculum development and digital dentistry technology and experience in faculty calibration is desirable, but not required.Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to maintain and uphold an educational/clinical environment that promotes collegiality and collaboration.Demonstrated professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting is essential.Certifications/LicensuresCertificate of training from an ADA-accredited AEGD or GPR program.
