Job Purpose
Intercontinental Exchange’s (ICE’s) Climate Team is a leading provider of analytics and insights that underpin the financial sector's ability to respond to the interrelated crises of climate change and widening socioeconomic inequality.
We are searching for a multi-skilled candidate with expertise in climate science, geospatial analysis, and data science for the position of Climate Data Scientist. The data scientist will be responsible for supporting our global climate and ESG initiatives as part of our growing ICE Climate team, working alongside likeminded scientists, analysts, and engineers. The person will be part of a team responsible for planning, conducting, and coordinating in-house research. The job is a full-time position in Hyderabad with a requirement to be in the office four days a week.
Upcoming initiatives the successful candidate will contribute to include:
Sourcing, processing, and analyzing global wildfire, hurricane, and flood data setsUtilise advanced geospatial analysis techniques and climate models to assess global climate risks and impacts on various sectorsContribute to the enhancement and development of the inhouse global physical risk modelsInterpret and apply data in complex analyses and explain findings to business audiences to improve products and processesDeveloping documentation and discussion points around climate data for dissemination to clients
Responsibilities
Analyzing global physical climate risk dataAbility to work alongside the team to analyze climate data in BigQueryBuilding models linking climate stressors to economic impactsProgramming and writing scripts to perform geospatial analysesCoordinate across multiple internal teams, including product management, business development and general client services
Knowledge and Experience
PhD or master’s degree in climate science, data science, or related fieldExpertise in acute and chronic physical risks, especially wildfire, flood, hurricane, and extreme temperature riskExperience in catastrophe modeling, including model evaluation and/or development2+ years of industry experienceProficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R, and PythonOutstanding quantitative skill setAttention to detail and good problem-solving skillsAnalytical mindsetExcellent written and verbal communicationIn addition to the above technical skills and knowledge, you will inevitably acquire knowledge in the subject domains ICE’s Sustainable Finance in, including:
Municipal bonds, mortgage-backed securities, sovereign debt, and corporate bonds & equitiesGoogle Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Compute, Google Cloud Storage)
