Job Title: Civil Engineer EIT
Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and driven Civil Engineer EIT to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a growing engineering firm. This position offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee high-impact projects, and engage in client and business development. The successful candidate will manage civil engineering projects from concept through construction, ensuring design excellence, financial performance, and client satisfaction. This role is ideal for engineers with experience in managing technical work and teams.
Responsibilities
Design and develop stormwater management systems including detention basins, bioretention, infiltration systems, and storm sewers.Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using tools such as HydroCAD, HEC RAS, HEC HMS, SWMM, Civil 3D, or similar.Prepare drainage area maps, watershed delineations, and flow path analyses.Size pipes, culverts, channels, and stormwater control measures (SCMs).Assist in erosion and sediment control (ESC) plan development.Conduct stormwater retrofit evaluations and conceptual designs.Support preparation of grading plans and site layout coordination.Create and revise plan sheets, profiles, and details in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.Update redlines from senior engineers and prepare construction documents including plan sets, details, quantities, and specifications.Maintain drawing standards and ensure consistency across project deliverables.Prepare stormwater reports, drainage narratives, and design summaries.Perform runoff calculations, peak flow estimates, and water quality treatment sizing.Conduct impervious area calculations and pollutant load reduction estimates.Compile data for permit applications and regulatory submissions.Assist with cost estimates and quantity takeoffs.Conduct site visits for existing condition assessments, stormwater facility inspections, construction observation, and survey support.Document field findings with photos, notes, and sketches and verify as-built conditions against design plans.Coordinate with contractors during construction to resolve design questions.Assist with preparation of stormwater permit applications and review local stormwater ordinances to ensure compliance.Prepare ESC plans and SWPPP documentation and respond to comments from permitting agencies under guidance from senior staff.Coordinate with surveyors, environmental scientists, GIS teams, and other disciplines.Communicate design needs and constraints to senior engineers and project managers.Track project tasks and deadlines using internal project management tools and support client communication by preparing technical materials or summaries.Participate in QA/QC reviews by preparing checklists and addressing reviewer comments.Seek mentorship from senior engineers to grow technical and professional skills.Engage in training sessions, webinars, or lunch and learns related to stormwater regulations, modeling software, green infrastructure, and construction practices.Maintain organized project files, calculations, and documentation.Log time daily and track billable hours.Prepare progress updates for project managers.Essential Skills
1-3 years of experience in stormwater design with an emphasis on hydrology.EIT certification with a desire to pursue PE.Proficiency and experience in Civil 3D, drainage, hydrology, and hydraulics.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Desire to obtain a PE license in Indiana.Work Environment

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
