Day (United States of America)Job Summary:\rFunctions under the direction of the Vascular Institute Manager or Director. The Interventional Chief Technologist supervises staff to ensure that ordered diagnostic/vascular interventional and neuro-interventional procedures are performed efficiently and professionally, assists with scheduling personnel to ensure adequate staff coverage. The technologist assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical, clerical and leadership procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The chief technologist is able to independently perform job functions. The Chief Tech oversees supply management, including communication to supply chain and distribution, in order to provide care and treatment in a cost effective manner.\rCore Responsibilities and Essential Functions:\rManagement of Staff\r* Supervises staff to ensure that ordered diagnostic/interventional procedures are performed\r* efficiently and professionally.\r* Assist with scheduling of personnel to ensure adequate coverage for case load; communicates with other managers and VI staff to assure appropriate schedules.\r* Coordinates daily operation and performs direct patient care activities as necessary\r* Assists with interviews and orientation of new employees\r* Assists with maintenance of the department records, JCAHO standards, state and federal\r* regulations and performance improvement.\r* Maintains good working relationship with managers, staff physicians and their staff.\r* Communicates area needs and recommendations to appropriate Managers/and or Director.\r* Uses and monitors staff use of pre-procedure verification and time out forms.\r* Meets Service Recovery and Customer Service Guidelines as needed.\r* Assigns and delegates work to staff for various work stations.\rClinical Skills\r* Completion of VI competencies\r* Able to use critical thinking skills\r* Work in conjunction with radiologists/ vascular surgeons/ cardiologists\r* Preps the patient for procedure\r* Demonstrates and understands sterile technique\r* Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedure\r* Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedure(SIM CODES)\r* Demonstrates pre and post procedure care\rDepartmental Responsibilities\r* Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs\r* Able to work scheduled and On-Call hours if necessary\r* Knows existing lines of communication and authority\r* Handles communications properly with stability and emotional maturity.\r* Assists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal\r* Regulations and performance Improvement\r* Completes necessary paperwork, including data entry\r* Answers departmental phone using proper scripting\r* Maintains stock levels and outdates\r* Maintains current License and BLS certifications\r* Provides in-service/training for other medical imaging staff as appropriate\r* Ensures processing of pending work reports daily so that cases are read in a timely manner.\r* Assists in other medical imaging areas and as needed in other departments in the system.\rQuality and Patient Safety\r* Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, i.e. Armband, DOB, verbal identification\r* Verifies patient information for same/similar name sticker\r* Verifies Written Order and Consent, seeks clarification if order or consent unclear\r* Uses and understands pre-procedural verification/ time out form\r* Understands and complies with site/ side marking when indicated\r* Reviews the case with the appropriate physician as needed.\r* Understands anatomical positioning, correct labeling of body parts and interventional safety practices\rPatient Education\r* Introduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting i.e. AIDET\r* Transports patients as needed\r* Provides privacy and comfort for patient/customers\r* Responsible for patient, family/support system education; explains procedure to patients and/or\r* family/guardian/support individuals as necessary\r* Provide post procedural home care instructions as needed\rPerforms other duties as assigned\rComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.\rRequired Minimum Education:Associates Health Science or Accredited Program Radiologic Science or Bachelors Health Science-Preferred\r\rRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):\rAll certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor\rAdditional License(s) and Certification(s):\rRequired Minimum Experience:\rFive (5) years experience in the Medical Field Required and\rExperience in vascular and/or interventional radiology with one (1) year of supervisory experience.\rPreferred\rRequired Minimum Skills:\rCompetent in all aspects of diagnostic radiology procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.\rMust have an understanding of pathology as to how it affects the quality of a procedure.\rThe individual must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitudeJoin us and discover the support to do more meaningful workâand enjoy a more rewarding life.
