Provides assistance to the Center Administrative Director for Therapy Services in the management of radiation therapy services for the Department of Radiation Oncology. Description of Duties Strategic Planning and Management + In accordance with the division vision and strategic plan, promotes and implements programming to facilitate organizational growth and adheres to all internal controls, rules and regulations. + Oversees and ensures accurate delivery and data capture and demonstrates sound clinical judgement and adheres to accurate treatment and simulation delivery. + Oversees and administers safe and accurate radiation therapy treatments. Provides professional radiation therapy services as required. + Ensures the department complies with stated quality assurance practices. + Manages, coordinates, and participates in a variety of duties involved in the administration of radiation therapy to patients; schedule patients, process treatment forms and plan utilization of radiation therapy equipment, supplies and materials for the department. + Assists in the Promotion of Matrix Management by coordination clinic operations with clinical services, physicians, residents, physicists, dosimetrists, and other associated health care professionals. + Implements new clinical treatment techniques as necessary. + Directly supervises the work of radiation therapists; functions include recommendations for hiring, discipline, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution. Evaluates and identifies clinical environmental needs and appropriate follow-up action to address issues. Participates in creation and implementation of clinical protocols in the department of radiation oncology. + Promotes and implements change management as necessary. + Plans and works with leadership in facilitating strategic development and operations. + Plans and defines strategic goals and issues clearly. + Offers new ideas, solutions and/or options through innovative thinking. + Applies broad knowledge and experience when addressing strategic challenges. + Foresees obstacles and opportunities relating to change or improvement. + Conveys information clearly and concisely through both formal and informal documents. + Encourages collaboration and input from all team members. + Values the contributions of all team members. + Balances individual and team goals. + Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Received General supervision from assigned supervisor. Supervision Given Direct supervision of assigned staff. Required Education Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology ( JRCERT ) accredited program in radiation therapy or a suitable equivalent or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field and two (2) years of the required experience or Associate’s degree and four (4) years of the required experience. Preferred Education None. Licenses/Certifications + Licensure as a Medical Radiologic Technologist by the Texas Medical Board. + Must have passed the registry exam as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists ( ARRT ). + Basic Life Support ( BLS ) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association ( AHA ) or American Red Cross ( ARC ). Required Experience Five (5) year of experience as a radiation therapist to include supervisory experience. Preferred Experience None. Equipment Work requires use of considerable judgment in application for radiotherapy on conventional machines, practices and policies to work problems, organization and administration of clinical activities. Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/Healthcare environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Other Knowledge of radiologic technology, radiation therapy, routine nursing procedures, radiation protection and safety procedures. General familiarity with dosimetry, mathematics/physics, anatomy and physiology. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients, medical and nursing personnel. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Strong attention to detail.
