Chief Operations Officer (COO)
Direct Placement Title: Chief Operations Officer (COO) Compensation: $150,000 + Comprehensive Benefits Location: Hatillo, Puerto Rico Company Description: Our client is a leading provider of innovative corrugated packaging solutions in Puerto Rico, committed to operational excellence and sustainable growth. Position Description: The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will be a strategic partner to the President & CEO, responsible for the total operational excellence, efficiency, and growth of our client. This executive will lead all aspects of manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics, drive continuous improvement and foster a high-performance culture rooted in safety and accountability across all facilities. Key Responsibilities + Manufacturing & Operational Excellence: Direct all manufacturing operations (production, maintenance, quality assurance) to ensure plants operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, meeting stringent production, quality, and on-time delivery targets. + Strategic Planning & Execution: Partner with the CEO to define and execute the long-term business strategy, including capacity planning, technology upgrades, and automation roadmaps to support growth. + Financial Performance & P&L Ownership: Own the operational P&L, delivering on revenue, margin, productivity, and cost objectives. Develop annual operating budgets, capital plans, and implement effective cost-control strategies. + Continuous Improvement & Lean: Drive Lean Manufacturing principles, waste reduction initiatives, and uptime improvement programs to maximize efficiency and minimize operational costs across all facilities. + Supply Chain & Logistics Management: Oversee the end-to-end supply chain, including procurement, inventory control, and logistics, to optimize material flow, reduce lead times, and enhance supplier performance. + Commercial & Customer Alignment: Collaborate with Sales and QA departments to ensure operational performance and quality meet customer requirements, strengthening key account relationships through performance reviews and facility engagement. + Talent Development & Culture: Build, mentor, and develop strong, accountable teams across operations, engineering, and plant leadership, fostering a high-performance, safety-first culture through transparent leadership. + Risk, EHS, & Compliance: Maintain industry-leading Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) practices, ensuring full compliance with OSHA and local regulatory requirements, and leading business continuity/risk management planning. Qualifications + A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment. + At least 5 years of executive or senior management experience in the corrugated packaging or a closely related industrial manufacturing sector. + Proven track record of success in implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies. + Demonstrated experience managing an operational P&L and successfully developing and controlling large operational and capital budgets. + Expert knowledge of supply chain, logistics, and quality assurance best practices within a manufacturing context. + Strong understanding of EHS regulations and a commitment to maintaining a world-class safety culture in Puerto Rico. + Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to define KPIs, establish performance dashboards, and drive data-informed decision-making. + Fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken) is highly preferred to effectively manage local operations and workforce. Education + Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical), Operations Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field. + Preferred: Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a related advanced degree.
