As digital transformation accelerates, the university seeks a strategic IT leader to align technology services with institutional goals, enhance governance, and foster collaboration across campus. Position Summary The Chief Information Technology Officer ( CITO ) serves as the university’s senior technology executive, providing strategic vision, leadership, and executive oversight for IT operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, this role ensures that IT investments and initiatives directly support SRU’s mission, administrative efficiency, and long-term institutional success. The CITO will oversee enterprise technology services, IT governance, cybersecurity, digital learning, and data strategy, balancing operational excellence with innovation. As an executive leader, this role will cultivate strong partnerships with faculty, students, administrators, and external stakeholders to drive a collaborative, forward-looking technology strategy. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & IT Governance + Define and execute an IT strategy that aligns with SRU’s academic, research, and administrative priorities. + Establish transparent IT governance frameworks to enhance decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and accountability. + Advise university leadership on emerging technologies, cybersecurity risks, and digital transformation opportunities. + Champion IT’s role in student success, faculty research, and institutional growth. + Foster a high-performing IT team, prioritizing innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement. IT Operations & Digital Transformation + Ensure scalable, secure, and resilient IT operations across the university. + Oversee cloud-first strategies, leveraging SRU’s existing Oracle Cloud, Azure, and SaaS solutions. + Modernize enterprise applications, including Ellucian Banner, data analytics platforms, and student support technologies. + Strengthen cybersecurity policies and risk management, ensuring compliance with FERPA , HIPAA , and higher education IT standards. + Optimize network infrastructure, enterprise systems, and IT service management processes. Stakeholder Engagement & Institutional Collaboration + Build strategic partnerships with faculty, students, administration, and industry leaders to enhance IT’s role in education and research. + Improve IT communications and service responsiveness, ensuring alignment with university needs. + Develop collaborative governance structures to integrate IT decision-making across academic and administrative units. Financial & Resource Stewardship + Oversee IT budgeting, vendor management, and strategic technology investments. + Drive cost-effective and scalable IT solutions to enhance efficiency and innovation. + Lead contract negotiations and vendor relationships to maximize value and service quality. + Establish performance metrics and data-driven decision-making frameworks to assess IT effectiveness. Minimum Qualifications Qualifications & Experience Minimum Requirements + Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. + 10+ years of executive IT leadership in higher education or similarly complex organizations. + Proven success in IT strategy, digital transformation, and governance frameworks. + Experience overseeing enterprise IT services, cybersecurity, and cloud adoption. + Strong stakeholder engagement, change management, and cross-functional collaboration skills. + Successful performance in an on-campus interview Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications + Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field. + Experience leading higher education IT strategy, ERP modernization, and data analytics. + ITIL or relevant technology leadership certifications. + Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
