Description
•\tResponsibilities include assisting with the setup and teardown of power electronics equipment and instrumentation, as well as performing updates to electrical systems and wiring harnesses for electrical architecture modifications. This work involves both low and high voltage systems, necessitating high voltage (HV) safety training.
•\tPerform service/troubleshooting on prototype ride and handling test and benchmarking vehicles
•\tWork with (take direction from) Ford technologist, subsystem, systems and calibration engineers during component, subsystem, and vehicle development testing and drive events – includes mechanical and electrical setup and teardown of instrumentation and vehicle/propulsion system prep (at breadboard/lab, service garage, dyno, development, and external/supplier sites in SE Michigan)
•\tComplete LV/HV wiring harness updates, reworks, and troubleshooting
•\tWork with cross functional teams/engineers on identifying issues/risks and support root cause and permanent corrective action investigations
•\tSupport advanced research prototype procurement and material logistics process - includes supporting engineers in updating/tracking BOMs, managing hardware shipping, delivery and storage logistics actions, and refueling and charging vehicles
•\tComplete mechanical and electrical tasks on next-generation smart chassis vehicles high voltage active suspension (HVAS) and steer-by-wire (SbW) supporting a cross-functional team of engineers
•\tprovide comprehensive chassis system technology prototype development. These services include repairs, troubleshooting, modifications, and drive evaluations. The individual will also assist with processing transport and shipping requests to other test and development sites.
•\tSupport engineering teams by utilizing various service tools and equipment, such as hoists and vehicle tie-down systems, and by managing vehicle charging (Level 2 or DC fast chargers), Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).
•\tProve electrical and mechanical support, under the guidance of Ford engineering leads, within vehicle chassis system breadboard and dynamometer labs.
•\tThis role involves assisting engineering leads with material logistics. This includes moving, packing, shipping, sorting, and storing vehicle propulsion system hardware, fixtures, tools, and instrumentation across various local development center locations such as garages, labs, storage cribs, and dynamometer sites. The position may require physical lifting of up to 40 lbs.
•\tTechnologists will primarily support local development activities within Southeast Michigan, USA.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
•\t3+ years of experience (preferred) working on prototype vehicle and chassis systems (includes prototype build/repair, testing, servicing, and troubleshooting) + instrumentation setup and teardown
•\tStrong knowledge of electrical vehicle architecture and control system/software awareness (desired)
•\tHigh Voltage electrical system knowledge and safety training required
•\tExpertise in building, modifying, troubleshooting, and reworking low and high voltage wiring harnesses
•\tCAN/LIN topology network interface knowledge or awareness preferred
•\tStrong cross functional team interface, collaboration and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work independently.
•\tFamiliar with reading/modifying/creating electrical wiring schematics and device transmittals + minor fabrication experience (preferred)
•\tHave basic computer (Microsoft Office) skills
Education
•\tAutomotive/Electrical/Engineering Technology Degree or equivalent experience

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
