Job Summary:

As a pharmacy technician, you ensure patient safety by accurately preparing and dispensing medications. Your efficiency in managing inventory and processing prescriptions allows pharmacists to focus on patient care. By providing excellent customer service and medication guidance, you enhance patient satisfaction and adherence to treatment plans.

Job Description:

The technician functions under the supervision of the pharmacist. Provides basic prescription filling, inventory management, customer service and basic compounding. May assists with other pharmacy projects and advanced dispensing. Provides backup for lead technicians and the pharmacy buyers.

Principle Responsibilities

Prescription FillingOrder entry into pharmacy management softwareFulfilment of reviewed ordersFinal dispense according to dispositionReduces audit risk through proper checks including, but not limited to, DAW, days supply, NDC validation, dates of service, discrete directions and other standard practicesPrepares oral extemporaneous productsPerforms bulk compoundingCustomer ServiceProvides service to internal and external customersGreets patients, employees and staff in a timely and courteous mannerObtains needed information through direct patient contact to support prescription fillingAdvocates for patients by searching for manufacturer and foundation copay assistanceTechnician will routinely complete the following responsibilities to manage and support drug distributionInventory Management – receipt and restock of wholesaler orders, transfer of medications to internal pharmaciesMedication picking in support of prescription fillingTroubleshoots malfunctioning equipmentRestocks automated dispensing robotsAssists with returns, waste, and reporting/resolution of discrepanciesComplete and document quality assurance activitiesMonitors expiration datingPerforms cleaningReports discrepancies or inaccuracies to pharmacist or supervisorOther duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job descriptionPrior experience as a Pharmacy Technician orPrior healthcare experience


Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or GEDVocational or Technical Training from an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training program


Licenses/Certifications

Registered Pharmacy Technician - MN Board of Pharmacy required upon hireCertified Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required (NHA or PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board)


Physical Demands

Light Work:Lifting weight up to 20 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $22.04 to $30.01 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
