Certification Technician
Summary Prepares vehicles for testing in the emission lab and performs mechanical work as needed on test and customer vehicles including collection of exhaust parts. Assists the lab in the performance of non-testing tasks as well as has responsibility for safe operation of Cell 2 (C2) when other departments are present. Will be expected to perform at the highest level of professionalism and quality to complete tasks. Primary Responsibilities Shop • Prepares vehicles and hardware for testing. • Orders parts and supplies as needed. • Performs required maintenance and repairs. • Prepares vehicles for emission testing. • Removes and replaces all major vehicle components such as engine, transmission, suspension, etc. for testing. • Organizes shipping and receiving of various parts for evaluation. • Performs needed maintenance on fleet vehicles and prepares them for emissions testing. • Locks up the service shop and turns off the lights and other electrical power when shutting down the service shop. • As a driver for moving the prototype vehicle by a VAN towing a secret trailer. • Uses technical testing equipment. • Assists with test trip preparation; supports and may participate in test trips and special testing on an as-needed basis. • Maintains cleanliness and organization in the shop area; assists with the shop maintenance or housekeeping when necessary. • Performs other duties and projects assigned by company management including special work activities and other miscellaneous duties. • Organizes and cleans the shop area and performs and/or schedules shop maintenance. • Purchases, organizes, and maintains shop tools and equipment. • Coordinates building maintenance (e.g., gates, HVAC, plumbing, lifts etc.). Emission Lab • Supports emission testing as needed. • Ensures safety of testing and proper use of Cell 2 (C2) by outside departments. • Drives tests as requested by outside departments on C2. • All other duties as assigned. Miscellaneous • Maintains good communication both inside and outside of the company. • Becomes proficient with and follows North American Subaru, Inc.'s (NASI’s) purchasing procedures and software. • Seeks constant improvement in work processes and techniques in the department. • Observes all safety regulations and procedures and suggests improvements. • Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties assigned by management, including documentation of procedures and policies as needed. • Reports all irregular issues and problems to the supervisor for resolution. • Maintains a clean and safe working area and maintains responsibility for workshop and others related to Certification department. Education • Associate's Degree in engineering technology or similar field Required Or • H.S. Diploma and equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of degree Required Work Experience • At least 4–6 years • At least (5) to ten (10) years of previous work experience in automotive repair, service maintenance, and diagnostic testing Required Must be able to: + Travel to other locations both within and outside the local region, possibly on a short notice. + Perform routine task of test-driving vehicles and also operate both a manual and automatic transmission. + Use basic hand tools and any special equipment in the shop. + Work safely and proficiently in a machine shop environment with a variety of instruments and tools. Work Environment • Office Location: NASI Michigan Van Buren Office, 50255 Michigan Ave, Belleville, MI 4811 Compensation: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $57,500 - $75,000 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additionally, this role is bonus-eligible, with a target bonus percentage that provides an opportunity to earn even more based on your performance. (Internal Job Grade: P1) WHY JOIN US?
