Located in East Chicago, Indiana, St. Catherine Hospital is a 216-bed nonprofit community hospital nationally recognized for its outstanding quality of care, patient safety, and compassionate service. The hospital offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient programs along with comprehensive specialty service lines, including cardiovascular, oncology, orthopedics, women’s health, behavioral health and emergency care.

St. Catherine Hospital is part of Powers Health, a not-for-profit integrated healthcare system serving Northwest Indiana. Powers Health includes Community Hospital in Munster, St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, and Powers Health Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point.

Position Summary

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the hospital while advancing St. Catherine Hospital’s commitment to compassionate, high-quality care for a diverse and often underserved population. This role requires a collaborative leader who can balance fiscal responsibility with a strong dedication to patient outcomes, workforce engagement, and community partnerships.

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Powers Health, and in collaboration with the St. Catherine Hospital Board of Directors, this role leads the hospital in alignment with system-wide goals and local community needs.

Key Responsibilities

Provide overall leadership and direction for hospital operations, clinical services, and strategic initiatives Ensure high standards of patient safety, quality of care, and regulatory compliance Lead financial performance, including budgeting, cost control, revenue optimization, and long-term sustainability Partner closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and staff to foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence Strengthen relationships with community organizations, government entities, and regional healthcare partners Advance initiatives that address health equity, access to care, and the unique needs of the East Chicago community Support recruitment, retention, and development of a skilled and engaged workforce Serve as the hospital’s primary representative to system leadership, boards, and external stakeholders Promote a positive work culture that emphasizes teamwork, professional growth, and employee engagement
  Model servant leadership, integrity, and collaboration across the organization

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Public Health (MPH), or a related field required. Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare administration. Experience leading a hospital serving urban or underserved populations. Prior leadership experience within an integrated healthcare system strongly desired. Demonstrated success in hospital operations, financial management and strategic planning. Strong understanding of regulatory, accreditation and compliance requirements. Strong ability to lead collaboratively within a matrixed, system-based structure. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills. Commitment to mission-based healthcare and community centered service.
