The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.
This position exists to provide service to state agencies by sorting incoming USPS mail and interoffice (state agency) mail. The position will lead all mail handlers and provide mail-metering support by processing mail on a Pitney Bowes meter. Postage chargebacks are tracked through the Pitney Bowes Business Mail Manager Accounting system. The position is also cross-trained to assist in other areas of Central Mail as backup driver and as needed to complete daily outgoing mail production. Basic computer and math skills are required to operate equipment and ensure the accuracy of postage applied to daily mail.
This is accomplished by:
+ Sorting inbound USPS and interoffice mail by placing items into the appropriate agency slot for delivery through the internal courier system.
+ Processing mail on the meter by applying correct postage to each mail piece, including identifying OCR-qualifying mail, Pitney Bowes Presort Services items, flats, media, and parcels.
+ Ensuring mail is processed and postage is charged to the correct agency using designated agency barcode cards scanned into department tracking systems.
+ Calculating and applying additional postage when applicable, based on mail class.
+ Printing and attaching deposit and end-of-day meter strips to the daily end-of-day meter sheet.
+ Proactively maintaining the work area and equipment, including calling for service when needed to ensure continuous mail flow.
+ Following workplace respect policies and communicating effectively to maintain positive working relationships and support daily production.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff.
+ Basic computer knowledge to learn and operate necessary software.
+ Data entry skills or experience sufficient to input data quickly and accurately.
+ Ability to transport up to 70 pounds.
+ Ability to climb, bend, reach, carry, and push/pull.
+ Ability to stand continuously for long periods of time.
+ Ability to operate electric and manual pallet jacks, mailing machines, and other equipment necessary to perform job functions.
+ Driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Dock truck experience
+ Knowledge of requirements for various mailing needs
+ Experience with mail processing using a metering machine or the use of a scale to weight and verify the cost of mail
+ Knowledge of postal rates and applications.

A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL (CRT TEST REQUIREMENT MINIMUM IS LIGHT-MEDIUM, EX: ABLE TO LIFT 13-21 LBS FREQUENTLY 100-300 REPS AN HOUR).
**Additional Requirements**
Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check through American DataBank and employment reference checks prior to employment. A criminal history does not automatically disqualify an applicant, and each case will be reviewed individually in alignment with fair hiring practices.
