Central Processing Tech I - Big Flats Surgical Center - Part Time

Position Summary: 

The Sterile Processing Technician performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable procedural/surgical instrumentation and equipment. Ensures equipment, instruments, and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infections for safe patient care.

 

Education, License & Cert: 

High school graduate or equivalent required. Must become central sterile processing certified within 18 months of hire to maintain employment.

 

Experience: 

1. Has successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; holds and maintains CRCST or CSPDT.

2. Provides evidence of employment as a Central Processing Technician in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within January 2011 to January 2015.

3. A Central Processing Technician who does not meet these requirements has 18 months from the date of hire to obtain CRCST or CSPDT. 

4. If grandfathered in, must have 10 hours of continuing education annually. To be grandfathered in, must have worked as a Central Processing Technician in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within January 1, 2011 to January 1, 2015.

 

Essential Functions: 

1. Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.

2. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.

3. Utilizes instrument/equipment manufacturer’s instructions for use when necessary.

4. Demonstrates effective time management, flexibility, prioritization, and critical thinking skills in performance of duties.

5. Decontaminates, reprocess, and maintain flexible endoscopes

6. Applies principles of microbiology, disinfection, sterilization, and modes of disease transmission to promote an infection free environment.

7. Communicates and works collaboratively with other staff in the department

8. Document and maintain accurate records to remain compliant with regulatory

9. Protects patient privacy and follows departmental policies/procedures

10. Work in conjunction with OR staff to provide timely sterile products

1. Demonstrates willingness to accept non‐routine work assignments as appropriate

Pay Range $17.86 - $28.29/hour, DOE
