Category Management Summer Intern
Overview

As a Category Management Intern, you will support key initiatives that drive product assortment, pricing, and space optimization across our categories. This role offers hands-on experience in analyzing category performance, developing insights to guide assortment and pricing decisions, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to enhance business outcomes. You’ll gain exposure to the strategic side of retail operations — learning how data, shopper behavior, and market trends shape category strategies.


During this 10-week internship, you’ll apply analytical and strategic thinking to support the Category Management and Merchandising teams. You will use reporting tools and data dashboards to assess category performance, identify growth opportunities, and help refine product placement and pricing strategies. Working closely with teams in merchandise planning, pricing, vendor management, and space planning, you’ll develop actionable recommendations that drive sales, improve the customer experience, and strengthen category profitability.

 

This experience will deepen your understanding of how insights and collaboration fuel retail success, while building your analytical, communication, and project management skills in a real-world business setting.

Overview of Responsibilities

Analyze category and product performance to identify sales trends and opportunities for growthSupport assortment and pricing strategy by reviewing market data, competitive benchmarks, and shopper insightsDevelop and maintain category performance dashboards and KPI tracking reportsAssist in the preparation of category reviews and business presentations for leadership and vendor partnersCollaborate with cross-functional teams including Merchandising, Pricing, Planning, and Space Analytics to execute category initiativesIdentify and recommend process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiencyUse analytics tools and systems to collect, organize, and interpret data for actionable insights
Qualifications

Currently enrolled in sophomore or junior year and pursuing a BA/BS in Business, Economics, Marketing, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related fieldStrong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracyAbility to synthesize data into meaningful insights and business recommendationsIntermediate proficiency in Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs); experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) is a plusEffective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data clearlyProactive, curious learner able to work both independently and collaboratively
