**Carpenter** **Pay Rate:** $34-$38 per hour (based on experience) **Job Overview** Join our Facilities Management Services team and help maintain and enhance our Pittsburgh campus with a strong commitment to cost efficiency and environmental sustainability. We are seeking a skilled and reliable **Carpenter** to support a wide range of construction, repair, and maintenance projects across our 100+ acre campus. This role involves hands-on craftsmanship, independent decision-making, and daily interaction with customers and team members. **Key Responsibilities** + Construct partitions and install T‑bar ceilings, floor tiles, trim, and molding. + Hang doors and assemble bins, shelving, forms, and partitions. + Safely operate a full range of carpentry tools, including hand tools, portable power tools, and woodworking shop equipment. + Interpret and work from architectural drawings, blueprints, sketches, and written instructions. + Select appropriate materials and ensure accuracy in project execution. + Operate utility vehicles and light trucks (up to ¾ ton) for on‑ and off‑road tasks. + Requisition necessary parts, materials, and supplies. + Work independently and determine when additional support is required. + Communicate clearly with customers to confirm project scope and expectations. **Essential Skills** + Strong communication and customer‑service abilities. + Ability to collaborate effectively with other skilled trades. + Proficiency with common carpentry tools and woodworking equipment. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications. + Willingness and physical ability to travel across a large campus. **Qualifications** + High school diploma or GED. + Completion of a trade school program or apprenticeship. + Minimum **three years (4,800 hours)** of recent full‑time journeyman‑level carpentry experience. + Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. + Fitness‑for‑duty assessment and pre‑employment medical exam. + Pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening. **Why Join Our Team?** + Competitive hourly pay: **$34–$38/hr** , depending on experience. + Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement contributions, and tuition benefits. + Paid time off, including holidays and vacation. + Supportive, team‑oriented work culture focused on excellence and adaptability. + Structured shift system offering flexibility and long‑term stability. + Union membership (Local #95 International Union of Operating Engineers) with additional benefits such as shift differentials and pension contributions. **Work Environment** + Typical carpenter shop setting with exposure to sawdust, noise, and power tools (PPE provided). + Work may involve ladders, scaffolding, and elevated surfaces. + Shifts available: **7am–3pm** , **3pm–11pm** , and **11pm–7am** . + First 90 days include rotation through all shops; afterward, shifts are assigned based on seniority. **Job Type & Location** This is a Permanent position based out of Pittsburgh, PA. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $78020.80 - $78020.80/yr. Time Off: • 11 Calendar Holidays - on website here. • 3 Floating Holidays / Personal Days These are loaded on your anniversary date and must be utilized within the year. • 3 paid time off days for winter break • 2 weeks vacation + sick time Parking: Not a benefit, 1st shift paid parking on site will run ~$160 per month. Reduced price for 2nd shift and parking is free for 3rd shift. Shifts: • Employees will be in a probationary period rotating through all shops for the first 90 days. After that they will bid into a shift based on seniority. For the first bid, they will be the least senior and get what is left over. That varies within each shop. Some very senior folks like 2nd and 3rd shift, however HVAC folks should be prepared to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift for a short duration until they move up in seniority. Electricians should be prepared to work 1st shift or 2nd shift (no electrician on 3rd shift). • Shift differential - 2nd and 3rd shift receive an additional shift differential of $2.00 per hour. • 10 hour shifts are offered for 2nd and 3rd shift (2:30pm to 12:30am) • Standards shifts are: 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am Healthcare Benefits • Health insurance is provided by CMU through Aetna for a specific L95 policy. Cost right now is about $525 per month, regardless of how many dependents. • Dental / Vision is directly through the union Retirement • 8% CMU contribution is paid to the L95 Pension Fund for each employee. This is non-matching and is 8% above and beyond the hourly rate. Tuition Benefits • Staff members receive immediate tuition benefits. • Dependent tuition benefits kick in after a 3 year vesting period.
