Job Title: Carpenter

Job Description

We are seeking skilled and detail-oriented carpenters with expertise in Special Haul Treatment (SHT) to join our team. Ideal candidates will possess strong woodworking skills and the ability to work collaboratively on projects such as tile installation, pool building, and more.

Responsibilities

Oversee all hull treatment and non-metallic coating operations for designated projects.Ensure high quality of workmanship while supervising Mechanics and Apprentices.Coordinate tasks with other Foremen and shipyard employees.Inspect equipment for proper working conditions and perform necessary repairs.Communicate effectively with inspectors and owner representatives during inspections.Organize, supervise, lead, and train employees to complete projects within guidelines and timeframes.Ensure installation meets manufacturers’ specifications, directing Mechanics to correct any deficiencies.Submit timesheets for crew members by the payroll deadline.Make decisions as required to ensure project success.Perform additional duties as necessary for project completion.Comply with clean-shaven standards for respirator use.Pass a thorough investigation for shipyard access.Adhere to all company rules and policies.

Essential Skills

Ability to read tape measures accurately.Proficiency in woodworking and carpentry.Strong attention to detail.Experience with adhesives and non-metallic coatings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience as a tile installer or pool builder is advantageous.Ability to lead and train a team effectively.Capability to work under the leadership of Superintendents.

Work Environment

Work will be conducted at the Norfolk Naval Base on the USS Warner. The role requires adherence to safety standards and the use of appropriate protective equipment. Candidates must be comfortable working in a shipyard environment and meeting physical demands associated with the role.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
