No If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The Career Coach and Educator supports the career readiness and professional growth of students, alumni, and community members through individualized coaching, skill-building education, and strategic programming. This role empowers students to explore meaningful academic and career pathways and serves as a campus resource for career development needs.
Salary Range: $57,200+ depending on experience (DOE)

Experience Cortland dives deep into the region’s offerings Major Responsibilities Career Coaching & Student Advisement Provide individualized and group-based career coaching to students via in-person appointments, group sessions, and virtual platforms. Contribute to daily delivery of Career Services functions and activities such as resume, cover letter, and graduate school statement reviews, mock interviews, and job search coaching. Serve as the lead office contact for teacher certification advisement, support, and outreach for campus and local community including, but not limited to, students, alumni, and faculty.
Data Assessment & Operations Coordinate the annual First Destinations (graduate outcomes) Survey (FDS) including: Design and develop processes for collecting and analyzing annual cohort data. Communicate with internal and external audiences on FDS data requests and communications. Monitor local and national trends in first destinations report standards and protocols. Compile, interpret, and present FDS data to campus stakeholders in written and visual formats. Maintain data integrity and ensure alignment with reporting standards.
Program Management & Supervision Manage Career Peer Mentors (CPM) program by overseeing recruitment, hiring, onboarding, supervision, and performance evaluation. Coordinate annual program marketing, develop and deliver training curriculum, and assess CPM learning outcomes to ensure continuous program improvement.
Campus Engagement & Collaboration Design and deliver engaging workshops, classroom presentations, and community presentations on career development and teacher certification topics. Develop effective marketing materials, including digital content, for programming and services for optimal engagement. Collaborate with marketing and communications staff to ensure consistent, effective branding in marketing materials. Serve as the Career Services representative on the SUNY Cortland Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Advisory Committee. Participate in campus-wide committees where appropriate. Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to director of career services. Supervises student staff – Career Peer Mentors (CPMs). Works with students, faculty, and alumni. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Experience with career development, academic advisement, job search process, or recruitment techniques. Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree. Familiarity with Handshake or similar employment/networking platform(s). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated effective interpersonal, public speaking, and writing communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships and interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, ethical workplace practices, confidentiality and academic integrity. Knowledge of information technology used in career planning and development, including social media, career assessment tools, and the ability to utilize technology to enhance productivity and service. Knowledge of careers, career fields and employment trends. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and support program initiatives.
