Job Description
The Buyer is responsible for the procurement of goods, materials, services, furniture, and equipment for multiple locations. This role involves sourcing competent suppliers who provide high-quality goods and services at fair and reasonable prices with on-time delivery. The Buyer will follow purchasing procedures and support staff in procurement efforts.
ResponsibilitiesReview purchase requisitions and transfer information to the purchase order to make awards.Identify sources of supply, solicit bids, analyze quotations, and select or recommend purchases to the purchase requester.Perform negotiations to secure the best pricing and payment and delivery terms.Monitor the timing of delivery of purchases and resolve delivery delays and quality discrepancies in a timely manner.Prepare various bid specifications, including information to bidders, general provisions, special provisions, and other pertinent bid documents.Maintain proposal-pricing spreadsheets and provide backup quote copies to Pricing Staff as needed.Maintain up-to-date vendor files and ensure the purchase order file includes all supporting documents to reflect a complete and accurate history of the transaction.Interface with Accounts Payable to address all questions concerning purchase orders and resolve invoice issues promptly.Participate in audit inquiries as required and respond to applicable audit findings with corrective action when necessary.Assist with Purchasing Department special projects as directed by the Manager – Purchasing and Material Management.Essential SkillsDemonstrated knowledge of purchasing procedures and preparation of specifications.Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written), organizational, and time management skills.Experience with general business and basic accounting principles.Ability to work independently and in a team environment across organizational lines and effectively interact with vendors.Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems.Experience with automated purchasing or accounting systems.Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, deadlines, and time constraints.Additional Skills & QualificationsAssociate degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.Minimum of 2 years of experience in a purchasing, accounting, or materials management environment.Experience with U.S. Government contracting procurement regulations (FAR) highly desirable.Purchasing certification such as CPPB, CPPO, or CPM is preferred.Work Environment
The role involves working in a fast-paced environment where the ability to prioritize tasks and execute them efficiently is crucial. The Buyer will need to interact effectively with vendors and work both independently and collaboratively across organizational lines. Strong computer skills and adaptability to new software and systems are essential.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
