Business Intelligence Engineer, Forecasting Analytics
Amazon.com
Amazon has the world’s most complex supply chain: we fulfill global demand for hundreds of millions of products at lightning fast delivery speeds. We need your skills to optimize our supply chain, with the end goal of delighting our customers. A core part of the supply chain operations is Demand and Inbound Forecasting: We forecast the demand and arrival of tens of millions of products. The forecasts are used to make many decisions, such as automatically order hundreds of millions worth of inventory, decide where to place that inventory, and establish labor plans for WW warehouses.
We are looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to develop new tools and metrics to monitor and improve forecast health. You will do this by generating metrics and insights that detect forecast problems and use those insights to develop mechanisms to correct forecasts at scale. You will have the resources and tools to help you deliver this mission and also the support from partner teams like Data Engineering, Data Science, and Product.
A successful candidate will be customer obsessed - the Forecasting org has 50+ unique customers. You will need to balance long-term thinking with short-term actions. You will be comfortable navigating an ambiguous environment, know how to confirm and reconfirm assumptions, and be able to harmonize disparate points of view.
Key job responsibilities
- Use business intelligence, data modeling, and statistical analysis best practices to create reporting and give insight to the forecast against large, multi-dimensional datasets from multiple sources.
- Work with Sr. BI Engineers, Product Managers and deep learning Science and Engineering teams to design, build, and implement forecasting metrics; perform analysis to identify the root cause of issues and generate actionable insights to recommend solutions.
- Engage stakeholders to gather business and functional requirements, translate the requirements into operable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture.
- Build tools to analyze large amounts of data that uncover forecasting issues and convey insights which highlight forecast performance and explain variance.
- Participate in the full development life cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation and testing, to documentation, delivery, support, and maintenance.
- Keys to success in this role include exceptional analytical thinking, knowledge of statistical analysis tools, judgment, and communication skills. The candidate will need to be able to extract insights from data and be able to clearly communicate appropriate triggers and actions.
