Business Intelligence Engineer, Enterprise Books

We are looking for an experienced, customer-focused Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) who demonstrates strong ownership, consistently dives deep into data, and exercises sound judgment to guide key business decisions for Amazon's Books B2B business. Our team focuses on delivering value to businesses seeking to purchase books in both print and digital formats, ranging from sole proprietorships to global 500 companies and resellers. The BIE will be a key member of the Books B2B team, which is working to revolutionize how business customers discover, purchase, and manage their book collections at scale by partnering with Amazon Business. We are dedicated to building features that work in a business context while maintaining a balance between addressing customer pain points and making strategic investments in the B2B flywheel. The successful candidate will need to dive deep into complex problems, using data to uncover root causes and developing comprehensive solutions. They will own end-to-end analytics initiatives and be expected to make decisions based on deep analysis and strong business judgment, while working backwards from customer needs. This role requires an individual who can: - Navigate ambiguity through detailed analysis and fact-finding - Make sound decisions based on incomplete information while seeking diverse perspectives - Take complete ownership of problems and their solutions - Demonstrate strong business judgment backed by data - Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards - Drive innovation on behalf of customers through deep understanding of data The BIE will coordinate across science and engineering teams, demonstrating strong ownership while collaborating with product managers, software engineers, and data engineers to drive data-informed decisions. Key job responsibilities - Take ownership of and dive deep into large, complicated data sets to identify insights that support Amazon Business experiences for our enterprise customers - Design, develop and maintain scaled, automated reporting systems, ensuring accuracy through careful validation and deep understanding of underlying data - Develop robust metrics that evaluate the balance between addressing customer pain points and strategic B2B investments - Create comprehensive analytics frameworks to assess feature adoption and value delivery across our full spectrum of business customers - Own the development and tracking of KPIs that measure the success of Amazon Business solutions - Challenge assumptions and dive deep into data to provide actionable insights that help maintain customer trust - Make sound, data-driven recommendations about feature development based on thorough analysis and strong business acumen Basic Qualifications - Experience in analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. - Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools - Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines - Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling - Experience with SQL - Experience in the data/BI space Preferred Qualifications - Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift - Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
