International Risk and Control sit within International Card Services (ICS) which comprises of all the issuing functions across all 28 international markets excluding the US - colleagues operate across a variety of geographies and disciplines. ICS issues products to our Consumer and Commercial customers – the organization is an integral part of the global growth strategy for American Express; offering differentiated products and services is critical to our success and promises to drive significant growth and value through the delivery of innovative products, tailored to the needs of our customers. 

The objective of the ICS Risk & Control teams is to enable safe, sound and sustainable business growth, and to support our International Legal Entities to deliver on their control and compliance obligations.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Support the design, implementation, and governance of the risk & control framework across international business unitsPartner with stakeholders to ensure business growth strategies are aligned with risk appetite and regulatory requirements e.g. ICS Market Commercial, Marketing & Acquisition leads, Compliance, Legal, Colleague Labour Relations, Internal Audit, Data and Analytic teamsProvide PMO support across Business Conduct initiatives, including tracking milestones, preparing reports and facilitating decision-making forums for the LTAct as a trusted advisor to help shape the Business Conduct roadmap and priorities, ensuring proactive identification of risk and controlsBring structure and clarity to ambiguous situations, helping teams align around a shared vision in a fast-changing environmentDevelop and maintain dashboards, risk registers, and reporting to track progress and highlight emerging risks and dependenciesWork collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive a culture of strong risk management while supporting innovation and growthPrepare high-quality presentations and briefing materials for senior leadershipSupport the development of best practice methodologies for risk governance and project delivery within the Risk & Control Programme Management Office

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in risk and control, conduct risk, or PMO roles within a financial services or regulated environmentExperience across the ICS business (e.g. market, acquisition, commercial, marketing) is preferred.Demonstrated ability to create structure in ambiguous and evolving environmentsProven ability to support senior decision-making through data-driven insights and risk analysisProven track record of working effectively across cultures, adapting to different ways of working and communication styleFamiliar with complex programmes which span across multiple marketsStrong proficiency in project management tools such as, excel, powerpoint, sharepoint, confluence

Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to connect the dots between business goals and risk considerationsPassionate about driving business growth, understanding how risk and control frameworks enable responsible expansionComfortable operating in white space able to create structure, processes, and a shared vision in complex or ambiguous environmentsStrong influencer skills to engage and gain buy-in from senior stakeholders across international teamsCulturally adaptable, with the ability to flex communication style and approach to build relationships across different geographies and working stylesAnalytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and present insights clearlyHolistic understanding of risk, conduct, and control frameworks in financial services or a highly regulated industryExcellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and management multiple initiativesStrong communication skills, with the ability to create compelling presentations and reports for senior leadership
