Budget Analyst

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Budget Analyst to provide comprehensive departmental support in managing and analyzing financial operations. The ideal candidate will assist in ensuring compliance with approved budgets, develop and analyze departmental budgets, and prepare financial reports and models. This role offers the opportunity to potentially transition into a full-time position based on performance.

Responsibilities

Review day-to-day budget operations and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets.Develop and analyze departmental budgets, identifying spending patterns and variances.Provide detailed explanations for budget variances and prepare financial reports and analytical data.Create financial models and projections to support fiscal planning.Assist in tracking legislative fiscal impact responses for pending bills.Ensure all operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal financial policies.Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

2+ years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or related accounting/finance roles.Ability to interpret complex data and create accurate forecasts.Proficiency in budget preparation, variance analysis, and cost control.Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros.Experience with ERP systems, particularly Workday.Experience with financial planning tools such as Hyperion or Adaptive Insights.Familiarity with reporting tools like Power BI or Tableau.Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Willingness to train on Workday.Financial planning and analysis experience.Financial modeling and reporting skills.

Work Environment

The Budget Analyst will report to the Assistant Director of Budget and work closely with the Director of Budget and one other budget analyst. This position will be a 9 week contract. The position requires a commitment of five days in the office from 8am to 5pm.

This is a Contract position based out of Laurel, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $47.00/hr.
