Duties Description Duties Description:As a Bridge Repair Supervisor 1:• Assist in the overall supervision of the skilled and unskilled workers who maintained and repair both high and low level bridges.• Coordinate the activities of various sized work crews according to project needs and be responsible for adherence to schedules, as well as all appropriate safety requirements.• Perform duties related to the preventatives and regular maintenance, repair, replacement, reconstruction, inspection, and rehabilitation of bridges assigned to the crew.• Perform the duties of a Bridge Repair Supervisor 2 in his/her absence.You will be required to perform snow and ice control activitiesResponsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Promotional: One year of permanent non-competitive service as a Bridge Repair Mechanic, Trades Specialist (Bridge), or Bridge Repair Assistant.Open Competitive:Either 1. Three years of experience** in the construction, reconstruction, maintenance, rehabilitation, or inspection of bridges, highways, roadways, or waterwaysOr 2. An associate’s or higher degree in construction or engineering technology AND one year of experience as described above. Or 3. A diploma or certificate of completion in carpentry, masonry, welding, or construction from a post-secondary trade school, apprenticeship program, military construction specialty school*** AND one year of experience as described above.**Experience in construction of sewers, parking lots, and buildings will NOT be considered qualifying experience.***NOTE: Acceptable military training may include documented completion of United States Army 14-Week Corp of Engineers Field 12, United States Navy Construction Force A and United States Navy Construction Force C schools, Navy Seabees, United States Marine Corps Combat Engineers MOS1371 school, or United States Air Force Civil Engineer Force training. Training schools must accompany one follow-on duty station in said field.Important: High school BOCES or VO-TECH courses are NOT qualifying.Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment.At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, you will be required to have a valid New York State Class A or Class B Commercial’s Driver’s License with no air brake restriction. Appointees will be required to satisfactorily complete a “one-person plowing” certification program which the Department of Transportation will offer during the probationary period.Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Additional Comments Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education. If awarded by an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $56,506 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.The maximum compensation for this position is $77,630. This amount is comprised of the standard job rate of $68,630 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $1,650 or a Downstate Adjustment of $3,400 may also apply depending on the location of the position.Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment.
