Job Summary and Essential Job Duties
The Bottleneck Response Specialists are responsible for alleviating the bottlenecks on the manufacturing floor. Successful candidates have undergone training to ultimately operate optical manufacturing and testing equipment such as multi-axis CNC machines, generating and polishing machines, applying knowledge of layout and tooling techniques and procedures, shop mathematics, and properties of optical and abrasive materials.
Through experience and their available skillset, BRS’s will:
+ Read and interpret lens specifications from blueprints and drawings and work to best practices. They operate as a regular technician, with a focus on improving speed and efficiency in the processes.
+ Set up and operate equipment, which may include: CNC and non-CNC generating equipment, grinding equipment, polishing equipment, centering equipment and inspection equipment to manufacture precision optics;
+ Operate cross-departmentally, helping to bridge communication gaps and share best practices between departments.
+ Inspect in-process optics for conformance to specifications.
+ Assess the current process in hand and locate any discrepancies. When a discrepancy is located, communicate through the correct channels to correct the issue.
+ Placement into different areas will be common, as the bottleneck oftentimes moves around the shop. The technician in this position will be required to change departments, work flow or habits weekly.
Placement into the Bottleneck Response Specialist ranks is attained via recommendations from supervisors.
Education Requirements :
+ Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience in Optics is required.
+ Some college related to Optics is preferred.
Minimum Requirements:
+ Technician has exceeded standards of previous roles / has multi-disciplinary training in regards to the Optical Manufacturing Process.
+ These topics could include (but all are not a requirement); Polishing and Generating Spheres, Aspheres, Cylinders, Plano, Centering, Blank Prep, Process Creation and Releasing, Research and Development, Freeform
+ Proficient shop math skills, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, ratios, decimal arithmetic and percentages
+ Ability to follow directions and attention to detail. When direction is unclear, is capable of making sound decisions without direction.
+ Capable of understanding and interpreting blueprints or drawings for both mechanical and optical standards
+ Ability to work in a challenging, fast paced environment with good time management skills
+ Good mental dexterity and decision making
+ Excellent communication skills
+ Analytical troubleshooting / problem solving
Other Skills and Experience:
+ Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical drawings.
+ Hand-eye coordination and/or manual dexterity similar to those skills utilized in artistic, creative or musical activities are desirable.
+ Ability to collect and interpret data
+ Strong Multi-tasking skills
+ Initiative and mental concentration to learn new skills and techniques
+ AAS or AS preferred. Five or more years working in manufacturing is also desirable.

Work Environment:
+ This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level can vary from quiet to loud frequencies.
+ May involve the use of oils and solvents.
+ Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
+ May require area specific safety training
+ The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes
+ May be assigned to various production areas as needs require.
