Fairview is looking for a Biomedical Electronic Technician to join our team at our Woodwinds Hospital campus in Woodbury, MN. Under minimal supervision of the Manager, inspect, repair, maintain, and calibrate all types of basic clinical equipment, devices, system, and instruments. Interact on a routine basis with other clinical health providers in the identification of technology-based problems and solution development. A BMET III represents the highest level of technical expertise and possesses a significant proficiency to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a full range of clinical devices, instrumentation, and systems. The BMET III will possess a substantial background of knowledge and experience with specific advanced training in areas such but not limited to surgery, dialysis, respiratory, or lab. The BMET III is expected to contribute to: initiatives regarding improvement and development of policy and procedures; technical guidance in the selection and installation of medical equipment and systems, staff development and mentorship of the junior technicians, and develop supervisory and administrative skills leading toward leadership positions.
**Position Details**
+ 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period)
+ day shift
+ as needed weekends
+ call shifts: every 7 weeks
**Responsibilities**
+ Collaborates and displays effective communication.
+ Communicates timely and accurately with customers on work completed, equip. status (waiting for parts, loaner coming in, etc) and potential alternatives for emergencies.
+ Follows through on projects to meet set deadlines.
+ Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
+ Maintains good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursing, professional, clinical, and medical staff, and public.
+ Completes repairs within timeframe to meet the needs of the customer and per policy
+ Communicates updates and status of issues with Manager.
+ Practice courtesy and professionalism in all phone and interpersonal conversations
+ Performs scheduled & unscheduled maintenance on clinical & non-clinical equipment.
+ Responds to emergency equipment failures as requested by hospital departments
+ Routinely provides after-hours on-call duty.
+ Identifies and documents parts/supplies necessary to maintain equipment
+ Expedites shipment of equipment & parts to/from hospital for repair/replacement to ensure equipment downtime is kept to a reasonable minimum.
+ Significantly proficient at performing troubleshooting & repair on a broad range of equipment
+ Competently performs scheduled maintenance (Safety, Performance, etc.) prior to installation and in accordance to established schedules & appropriate protocols
+ Performs incoming inspections, attach and assign control numbers and labels, and acquires the necessary information for accurate database inventory entries.
+ Coordinates/monitors work performed by outside contractors & tracks progress
+ Provides technical assistance and instruction to hospital staff on equipment operations and maintenance.
+ Performs/contributes to special projects as assigned in a timely manner & keeps all parties informed as to progress
+ Creates and maintains a safe, clean and organized workplace.
+ Identifies and participates with training of staff when operator errors are noted.
+ Use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
+ Immediately reports any unsafe condition and repairs if possible.
+ Uses proper infection control precautions when necessary
+ Knows how to and when to file an equipment incident
+ Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of Safe Medical Device Act (SMDA).
+ Maintains test equipment and keeps work areas clean
+ Conducts safety practices and universal precautions in all work and assigned tasks
+ Acts as Role Model in Performing duties
+ Maintains professional appearance and demeanor commensurate with company and hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
+ Consistently meets all departmental and organizational performance indicator standards.
+ Performs all tasks in strict adherence to the departmental Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP).
+ Maintains accurate and thorough documentation and record keeping in a timely manner.
+ Opens and closes work orders accurately and within required time.
+ Consistently reports to work and all scheduled appointments on time.
+ Follows through with assignments to completion
+ Takes ownership for assignments
+ Recognizes work that needs to be done, works with Manager to reach resolution
+ Demonstrates an ability to prioritize workload.
+ As assigned, provides front-line mentoring and training to junior technicians.
+ Participates in development of and conducts on the job training sessions as assigned.
+ As required, represent department in committees and special projects.
+ Demonstrates the ability to mentor junior technicians.
+ Manages Resources
+ Uses supplies and equipment cost effectively.
+ Efficiently using available resources (tools, computer, etc).
+ Assists in researching resources for parts and services and initiate ordering parts and supplies
+ Schedules and oversees third party activities as necessary
+ Works in a manner to achieve all budgetary objectives
+ Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment.
+ May be asked to be present at meetings in the absence of the manager
+ Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
+ Maintains and enhances personal growth and knowledge.
+ Maintains technical skills through in-services, self-study, and ongoing training (minimum of 80 hours).
+ Documents all educational opportunities and provides certificates as required.
+ Maintains advanced training in surgery, dialysis, respiratory, or lab
+ Exhibits supervisory and administrative skills leading toward leadership positions.
**Required Qualifications**
+ A.A./A.S. in Electronics Technology or equivalent experience. Significant factory-level training of clinical equipment including but not limited to specialized training in surgery, dialysis, respiratory, or lab.
+ 4 years full-time equivalent biomedical experience in a healthcare environment maintaining clinical equipment including but not limited to equipment in surgery, dialysis, respiratory, or lab.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ A.A./A.S. in Biomedical Equipment Technology.
+ B.S./B.A. in Biomedical
+ 5 years experience within a healthcare setting with direct responsibility for the maintenance and repair of a broad range of clinical devices.
+ Completion of manufacture, trade, or other formal training on the maintenance and repair of a broad range of equipment related to the clinical inventory in the Fairview facility.
+ Military experience within a specialty associated with Biomedical equipment repair.
+ Working knowledge of standard computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
+ First hand familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements and processes for Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant agencies (i.e., NEC, FDA, CAP, etc.)
+ Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
+ Ability to multitask
+ Project management experience
+ Ability to share on-call responsibilities.
