BIM|VDC Coordinator
Actalent
VDC / BIM Specialist (Mechanical) – Premier MEP Contractor | Fully Remote (East Coast)
About the Opportunity
Join one of the region’s premier MEP contractors as a VDC / BIM Specialist supporting complex mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC projects across the East Coast. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical subcontractor background who loves hands-on BIM/VDC modeling, project coordination, and solving real‑world constructability challenges.
This role is fully remote, with the expectation that candidates reside on the East Coast (preferably near NC) for occasional site or team visits.
What You’ll Do
As a key member of the Virtual Design & Construction team, you will help turn engineering design intent into accurate, constructible BIM models used for fabrication, installation, and field layout. You’ll collaborate directly with project teams, field leaders, and trade partners to ensure smooth coordination and successful project execution.
Core Responsibilities
+ Develop detailed LOD 400 BIM models for mechanical and plumbing systems using advanced fabrication modeling tools.
+ Coordinate mechanical systems with other trades in Navisworks to support clash resolution and spatial coordination.
+ Produce accurate shop drawings, hanger and sleeve layouts, and installation documents for fabrication and field teams.
+ Maintain and update project BIM content, including vendor models, submittals, and design revisions.
+ Attend (virtual or onsite) coordination meetings with GCs, engineers, and subcontractors.
+ Generate RFIs to clarify design intent and support project accuracy.
+ Export layout points for robotic total station field use.
+ Communicate regularly with field teams to ensure the model aligns with installation realities.
+ Support junior VDC team members with BIM workflows, tools, and best practices.
What Makes You Successful Here
+ Strong understanding of how mechanical and plumbing systems are actually installed in the field (preferred: experience with a mechanical subcontractor).
+ Ability to interpret construction documents, specifications, and project schedules.
+ Comfortable communicating with field personnel, engineers, and GC teams.
+ Talent for problem‑solving and identifying constructability challenges early.
+ Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote environment while collaborating closely with the broader project team.
Tools You’ll Use
+ Autodesk Revit
+ Autodesk Fabrication CADmep
+ AutoCAD
+ Navisworks Manage
+ Microsoft Office Suite
+ (Bonus) Experience with additional BIM/VDC or fabrication software
Experience & Qualifications
+ 3+ years of experience installing or modeling mechanical or plumbing systems in construction environments.
+ Strong understanding of MEP system layout, fabrication, and field installation.
+ Demonstrated integrity, teamwork, and strong organizational skills.
+ Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and stay productive in a remote setting.
Work Environment
+ Fully remote work structure; candidates must be based on the East Coast.
+ Occasional onsite or office visits may be required depending on project needs (primarily within GA, NC, FL).
+ Highly collaborative culture with excellent support from project managers, field leaders, and VDC leadership.
