Bakery Manager
Duties & Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly customer service. Assist customers by offering product suggestions, filling special orders, and providing food‑preparation recommendations. Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques through phone interactions, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one conversations. Answer and respond to incoming calls promptly; resolve customer complaints and escalate to the Store Director when needed. Department Knowledge & Product Preparation Maintain full working knowledge of duties performed by all bakery department employees. Oversee and assist with department duties including product preparation and display. Implement proper and efficient product preparation, packaging, and handling techniques. Ensure all temperatures are properly maintained during preparation, display, and storage. Food Safety, Cleanliness & Visual Standards Maintain bakery case cleanliness, visual appeal, and appropriate inventory levels. Ensure proper sanitation and overall appearance of the bakery area and equipment. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Follow proper code‑dating requirements for all products in the department. Supervision, Scheduling & Training Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to bakery team members. Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet service and production needs. Train employees on store policies, sales techniques, and record‑keeping procedures. Identify and develop high‑potential employees for advancement opportunities. Monitor employee productivity and evaluate performance. Initiate personnel actions such as pre‑employment interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary measures. Daily Operations & Production Plan daily operations and monitor production processes in line with company procedures and profitability goals. Ensure compliance with all opening and closing procedures. Build displays, rotate inventory, and remove outdated or spoiled products. Ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper maintenance of the work area and department. Inventory, Ordering & Reporting Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every four weeks. Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, freshness, and quality. Maintain and organize coolers and freezers. Stock, rotate, and maintain inventory levels according to division directives. Control shrink and department costs effectively. Receiving & Back Room Operations Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting product quality, reporting shortages, and stocking/rotating product. Follow product temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines to ensure safety and quality. Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate, up‑to‑date department records. Policies & Standards Maintain working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook. Follow and uphold department standards for quality, safety, merchandising, and operational execution. Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays in accordance with company plans.
