AVP Controller

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The AVP, Controller leads the organization’s accounting  operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP/IFRS and robust internal controls. This role oversees the application of accounting principles, manages month-end and year-end close processes, and drives process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. The AVP Controller provides strategic support to senior leadership, mentors accounting staff, and ensures adherence to regulatory standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE

Manages the application of accounting principles, practices, and procedures within assigned business units or regions ensuring consistency and accuracyOversees compliance with GAAP and assists with technical accounting issues.Leads the team in the preparation and review and timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; ensures accuracy and completeness of the month-end close process.Manages compliance reviews and delivers training to accounting staff to ensure adherence to policies and standardsSupports the VP Controller and senior leadership on compliance and reporting and strategic financial issues.Liaises with upper management on accounting implications of business developments.Maintains current knowledge of relevant accounting standards, regulatory changes, and industry best practicesDrives process improvements and leverages technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy within accounting operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES.

Provides support, guidance, leadership and motivation to promote maximum performance.Administers company personnel policies in all areas and follows company staffing standards and training recommendations.Interviews, hires and establishes colleague performance development plans; conducts colleague performance discussions.

QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred. At least 10 years of accounting experience, including 5 years in a supervisory role. Experience with international operations. Proven expertise in GAAP/IFRS compliance and preparation of financial statements for complex or multi-entity organizations. Hands-on experience managing month-end and year-end close processes, audits, and internal controls. Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills, with a track record of driving process improvements and leveraging technology.

Skills & Knowledge

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information clearly to senior leadership.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday).Strong Analytical and interpretive skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across departmentsProven management and leadership skills including team development and performance coaching.Strong negotiating skills to drive process improvements and compliance.Ability to create and deliver comprehensive, accurate and constructive financial reportsDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentAbility to meet or exceed Performance Competencies and adapt to changing business needs.
