Job Description
Insight Global seeking an AVP-level technical accounting professional with deep insurance domain expertise and strong command of STAT and U.S. GAAP accounting for complex investment transactions, including derivatives and hedging. Our client is a large and prestigous Private Equity firm that recently required a large insurnce firm. This role will support technical accounting conclusions, policy development, and transaction execution across a broad set of insurance and investment activities. The position will serve as a key partner to Finance, Investments, and Deal Teams and will interface with external auditors and advisors. The Accounting Policy & Strategy team supports three pillars of our client's organization: Corporate, Investment and Insurance. This role will begin with a focus on the Insurance pillar but have the opportunity to support work across all three pillars.
Key responsibilities
Technical accounting and transaction support
• Provide technical accounting guidance under U.S. GAAP and STAT for complex investment transactions (e.g., structured products, alternatives, private credit/equity, fund interests, SPVs), including recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure implications.
• Evaluate and document accounting conclusions for derivatives and hedging strategies, including hedge designation considerations, effectiveness assessments, and ongoing accounting treatment under relevant guidance.
• Support evaluation of consolidation and control considerations for insurance-related structures (e.g., variable interest entities or other consolidation frameworks as applicable).
Accounting policy and governance
• Draft and maintain technical accounting memos and position papers suitable for audit review; ensure conclusions are well-supported, consistent, and reproducible.
• Contribute to development/refresh of accounting policies relevant to insurance investment activities, hedging, and emerging transactions.
• Monitor new accounting guidance impacting insurers and investment accounting and assess implementation impacts.
Audit and stakeholder management
• Serve as a key technical point of contact for external auditors and internal stakeholders; proactively identify areas of judgment and drive alignment.
• Partner with controllership and finance teams to ensure accurate accounting outcomes and timely deliverables (quarterly/annual close support as needed).

Skills and Requirements
• 8–10+ years of relevant experience in technical accounting for insurance and/or complex investments.
• Recent experience within the insurance industry or domain.
• Strong working knowledge of STAT and U.S. GAAP accounting, with demonstrated application to complex investment transactions.
• Demonstrated experience with derivatives and hedging (e.g., hedge accounting framework and/or hedge-related accounting analysis, documentation expectations, effectiveness concepts, and ongoing maintenance).
• Proven ability to produce high-quality technical accounting documentation (memos/papers) and defend conclusions with auditors and senior stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred (or equivalent certification).
Core competencies
• Strong accounting judgment and structured problem-solving; able to synthesize ambiguity into clear conclusions.
• Executive-ready communication (written and verbal), including ability to translate technical issues into business implications.
• High attention to detail with strong ownership mindset; comfortable operating directly with leadership.
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred backgrounds
• Experience within a life insurance company (technical accounting, investments accounting, controllership, or finance policy roles), ideally covering STAT + GAAP.
• Alternatively: experience in Big 4 Accounting Advisory serving insurance clients, or Big 4 National Office exposure with focus on insurance and complex investment/hedging topics.
