Major Responsibilities:

Lead the development and implementation of a forward-thinking vision for library services and resources that aligns with the goals and initiatives of Advocate Health’s National Academic Model. Engage key stakeholders to execute a strategic vision for the Advocate Health Library System that is aligned with Advocate Health strategic differentiators. Integrate and deploy the system strategic plan with a focus on innovation and equitable access to resources. Lead the planning, evaluation, and enhancement of a customer-oriented library system that promotes and supports a technology infrastructure that integrates with existing and planned core systems in Advocate Health. Lead the integration of library services into clinical and educational programs to support evidence-based medicine and groundbreaking research. Oversee the management and operations of library facilities, resources, and services across the enterprise, ensuring efficient and effective delivery and support. Manage the library system’s budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and identifying funding opportunities, grants and partnerships to support initiatives. Oversee the acquisition, organization, and maintenance of medical literature, databases, and electronic resources for use across the Advocate Health Library System. Foster partnerships with healthcare professionals, educators, researchers and administrators to enhance library services and support academic and clinical activities. Ensure adherence to best practices in library management, including collection development, cataloging, and user services. Lead the planning and development of library system spaces across the enterprise, ensuring that all spaces are used efficiently and productively. 

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

None

Education Required:

Master's degree in Library Science (MLS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program. 

Experience Required:

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in library management, preferably within a healthcare or academic setting. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong track record of strategic planning, staff development, and budget management. Knowledge and experience in developing and leading quality initiatives, improvements, and programs to include, if necessary, appropriate metrics and benchmarks. Knowledge of emerging trends in library services, digital libraries, and information technology. A strong, verifiable advocacy for excellent service. Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with diverse parties in complex situations as well as being highly skilled in conflict resolution, e.g., negotiator, arbitrator, facilitator, consensus builder. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the confidence sufficient to represent the organization in both formal and informal settings. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Generally exposed to a normal office environment. Occasional travel to meet business needs; may be exposed to weather and road conditions. Operate all equipment essential to performing the job. 

Preferred Job Requirements

Additional master’s degree in a relevant field. Certification as a Medical Librarian (MLIS) or equivalent. Experience with large-scale digital library initiatives and electronic resource management systems. Experience with medical and/or health sciences libraries. Experience in an academic Learning Health System or similar integrated healthcare and research environment. Understanding of research support services, data management, and open access initiatives. Knowledge of healthcare policies, regulations, and practices. Experience in research support services and scholarly communication.
