Avionics Technician

Location: Malmstrom Air Force Base (On-Site), Great Falls, MT

Pay: $58.00/hour total compensation

Taxable Base: $35.75/hourPer Diem (Non‑Taxable): $22.25/hour (per diem eligibility per assignment/location policy and applicable IRS guidelines)Schedule: Full-time; onsite; shift scheduling may vary based on mission requirementsOverview

We are seeking an experienced Avionics Technician to support on-site maintenance, troubleshooting, and modification of avionics systems at Malmstrom AFB. This role is hands-on, mission-focused, and requires strict adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards in a military environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesInspect, troubleshoot, repair, and test avionics systems and components (e.g., communications, navigation, flight control, instrumentation, power distribution, and associated LRUs/black boxes).Perform wire harness fabrication/repair, connector terminations, pin-outs, continuity checks, and insulation resistance testing in accordance with technical data.Use precision test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, RF test sets, and BITE/built-in test interfaces).Execute scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, functional checks, software loads, and configuration management updates.Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, IPCs, and maintenance manuals/TOs; update logs and maintenance records accurately.Maintain tool control, FOD prevention, and ESD best practices; comply with quality inspection checkpoints.Collaborate with engineering, QA, and operations to identify root cause and drive corrective actions.Support modifications, retrofits, and system upgrades, ensuring documentation and sign-off per standards.Uphold safety, security, and compliance requirements at all times on a U.S. military installation.Required Qualifications6+ years of hands-on avionics maintenance experience (military or commercial).Strong proficiency with avionics diagnostics, soldering/termination, and electrical troubleshooting.Ability to read and apply technical orders (TOs), OEM manuals, and engineering drawings.Familiarity with MIL‑spec connectors, wire types, termination standards, and ESD controls.U.S. Citizenship required (work performed on a federal installation).Ability to obtain and maintain base access; willingness to comply with all site security protocols.Valid driver’s license and ability to work full-time on-site; lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in hangar/flightline or shop environments.Preferred QualificationsFCC GROL or relevant avionics certifications.A&P license or equivalent aircraft maintenance certification.Prior experience on military aircraft or support equipment in a depot/line maintenance environment.Knowledge of ISO/AS9100, DoD quality systems, and configuration control.Experience with software loads, data bus troubleshooting (e.g., ARINC, MIL‑STD‑1553), and EMI/RFI testing.Work Environment & ComplianceOn-site role at Malmstrom AFB; compliance with tool control, PPE, safety, and site-specific procedures is mandatory.Adherence to company policies, DoD/USAF regulations, and OSHA/EHS requirements.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.75 - $35.75/hr.
