**Job Title: Automation Technician III**
**Job Description**
The Automation Technician III is the highest level on-shift technical expert responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and optimizing all automated material-handling equipment. This role leads complex troubleshooting, executes high-level maintenance tasks, supports system upgrades, and mentors lower-level technicians. The technician ensures equipment uptime, operational reliability, and safe work practices across a fast-paced industrial environment.
**Responsibilities**
+ Diagnose and repair automated material-handling equipment.
+ Lead complex troubleshooting and execute high-level maintenance tasks.
+ Support system upgrades and mentor junior technicians.
+ Ensure equipment uptime and operational reliability.
+ Implement safe work practices throughout the facility.
**Essential Skills**
+ Expert-level ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls schematics.
+ Advanced troubleshooting of complex automation systems, conveyors, PLC-based equipment, and electromechanical components.
+ Strong preventative and predictive maintenance execution, including the development of PM programs.
+ Leadership skills including mentoring junior technicians and leading shift troubleshooting.
+ Proficiency with CMMS systems, documentation accuracy, and technical reporting.
+ Safety compliance expertise (OSHA, LOTO, industrial safety best practices).
+ Intermediate-to-advanced computer skills, including MS Office and controls interfaces.
+ Solid mechanical, electrical, motor control, and PLC familiarity.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ 4–6+ years of experience in automation, industrial maintenance, or material-handling systems.
+ Strong understanding of conveyors, sensors, drives/VFDs, motors, pneumatic systems, and controls.
+ Ability to interface with engineering teams on system modifications, upgrades, and root-cause analysis.
+ Strong communication skills for shift reports, work orders, and technical documentation.

**Work Environment**
The work environment is an industrial facility with both indoor and outdoor working conditions. It includes exposure to mechanical parts, electrical systems, conveyors, oils, fumes, dust, high heat, and elevated work areas. The role requires frequent standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting, up to medium/heavy work.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phillipsburg, NJ.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
