Role Definition

Caterpillar's CAT Technology in Chennai / Bengaluru is looking for an AI / ML Engineer with strong fundamentals in mathematics, machine learning and programming.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting multiple Caterpillar product groups by developing Reduced Order Models (ROMs) that accelerate design evaluation and component optimization. This position involves building performance tools, developing a digital platform to connect diverse data sources, and collaborating with a global, multidisciplinary engineering team. The role will help define ROMs requirements, set performance constraints, and apply physics and data analytics to drive optimized and robust product designs.

Responsibilities:

Develop and optimize product development cycles using AI/ML Develop methodologies for speeding simulation processesIdentify improvement opportunities in the existing workflowCommunicate technical information to customers, team members, suppliers, and other business units
 

Degree Requirement​:

Education - Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in an accredited Engineering field (i.e. Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Machine Learning, Mechanical, Automobile, Aerospace Engineering)Experience – 2-3 years’ specific experience in AI/ ML

Required Skills:

Strong proficiency in Python (knowledge of C++ is a plus)Solid understanding of statistics, linear algebra, and probability behind MLHands-on experience with NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlowExperience of implementing ML algorithms with clear understanding of underlying conceptsKnowledge of neural networks, including CNNs and LSTMs, with ability to code models

Good to Have:

Background or familiarity with mechanical engineering conceptsExperience with chatbots, LLMs, or AI applications
